Port office in Surigao to join APEC port forum

SURIGAO CITY, Surigao del Norte (PIA) -- The Port Management Office (PMO) of Surigao is set to take center stage in the upcoming 4th Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Green Port Development Forum, happening on June 4-5, 2024 in Qingdao, China.

Froilan Caturla, manager of PMO – Surigao, will be the keynote speaker in Session 3: Green Port Practice Sharing.

This prestigious honor came after the port of Surigao's impressive recognition as a green port under the APEC Port Services Network (APSN) Green Ports Award System (GPAS) in 2023. This achievement placed Surigao among an elite group of just thirteen other green ports across the Asia-Pacific region.

Surigao's GPAS award added another layer of pride for the Philippine Ports Authority (PPA), which now has three distinguished awardees: the ports of Cagayan de Oro, Batangas, and Surigao. These recognitions collectively showcased the PPA's unwavering commitment to environmental responsibility and promoting sustainable growth in the maritime industry.

This forum provided a valuable platform for the port of Surigao to share its successful sustainability efforts and inspire other ports in the region to embrace similar practices. (PPA-PMO Surigao/PIA-Surigao del Norte)
