Tandag City provides emergency assistance to recent fire victims

By Nida Grace P. Barcena

The city government of Tandag through the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) in collaboration with the national government agencies, partner stakeholders, and non-government organizations (NGOs)/civil society organizations (CSOs) spearheaded the provision of emergency assistance to the recent fire victims  held at Barangay Mabua  covered court, Tandag City on April 4.

There were four families from Barangay Mabua, and three families from Barangay Telaje who were affected by two different fire incidents on April 1 and April 3 respectively.

Mayor Roxanne Pimentel led the distribution joined by Vice Mayor Eleanor Momo and the provincial government ably represented by Provincial DRRM chief Alex Arana, national government agencies, and representatives from non-government organizations who extended their assistance in cash and in-kind to the fire victims.

Each family received P30,000 cash aid from the city government, P10,000 cash aid from Governor Alexander Pimentel, and P1,000 cash aid from Sangguniang Panlalawigan member Lery Montesclaros. The city councilors, on the other hand, also contributed their personal monetary assistance directly to the families affected, during the event. Further, the Linungao Tandag City Eagle’s Club handed over cash assistance worth P2,000 to each family.

The local chief executive said, “With the approval from the city legislators, headed by Vice Mayor Momo, the city government allocated a relocation site for those families who are only renting spaces to live in.”

The mayor also instructed the City Nutrition Office to provide a year supply of multivitamins/supplements for the school children.

For in-kind assistance, the fire victims also received construction materials, toilet bowls, food, and non-food items including hygiene kits, kitchen and dinnerware, and chicken for livelihood.

Meanwhile, for those who want to donate in kind to the affected family, you can contact the CDRRMO Tandag City at 0907-299- 3793 or 0954-158-5718. (NGPB, PIA-Surigao del Sur)
