People's org in Butuan receive P7.5M livelihood assistance

BUENAVISTA, Agusan del Norte -- The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Caraga, through the Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP) recently awarded the P7.5 million worth of livelihood assistance to the five people’s organizations (PO) in Butuan City.

The said assistance was made possible through the efforts of the 23rd Infantry (Masigasig) Battalion (23IB), local government unit of Butuan City and the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) Caraga, that supported the associations livelihood project and prevented the return of insurgency from these previous conflict areas.

The recipient POs are from geographically isolated and disadvantaged areas (GIDAS), in which most members were formerly affiliated with the underground mass organizations (UGMOs) of the new people’s army (NPA).

Fortunately, these organizations were transformed to support the government and are now serving as gatekeepers of peace in their respective communities.

Each PO received the amount of P1.5 million as livelihood assistance to enhance the socio-economic situation of the members.

SLP is a DSWD flagship project that intends to uplift the living conditions of the members of the POs who were rescued from insurgency and violence, and now supporting the government in nation-building. (23IB PA/PIA Agusan del Norte)
