SURIGAO DEL SUR -- Anchored on quality education
as a fundamental right of every child, some 2,400 students from 36 selected
schools in the municipalities of Lanuza, Carmen, and Madrid, all in the
northern part of Surigao del Sur, recently received essential school supplies
during the gift-giving activity dubbed as “Unang Hakbang sa Kinabukasan (UHSK)
Project 2023,” as spearheaded by the GMA Kapuso Foundation Incorporation.
The UHSK Project 2023 is a testament to the
commitment of GMA Kapuso Foundation Inc. and its strong partnership to the
local government units, the Department of Education (DepEd), and the 36th
Infantry ''VALOR" Battalion, 4th Infantry Division, Philippine Army in
addressing the educational needs of Filipino students, especially those in disadvantaged
areas.
Of the 36 school recipients, 23 belong to
Geographically Isolated and Disadvantaged Areas (GIDAS), the military confirmed.
Accordingly, the project focused on providing
incoming kindergarten up to grade 2 students with school bags filled with
necessary school supplies, as education is the foundation of their future. Yet,
many of them still lack access to basic learning materials.
The identified underprivileged areas often face
significant challenges in providing adequate educational resources to the
students. By focusing on these communities, the UHSK Project 2023 aims to make
a meaningful impact on the lives of these young learners. (36IB, PA/NGPB, PIA-Surigao del Sur)
