PMO Surigao celebrates anniversary in grandeur

SURIGAO CITY, Surigao del Norte -- The picturesque Port of Surigao came alive with vibrant colors and jubilation as the Port Management Office of Surigao spotlighted the weeklong celebration to mark its 46th Anniversary on August 1, 2023.

The festivities kicked off on July 25,  2023, with a Parade of Teams that ignited a sense of camaraderie and sportsmanship among the participants. The Blue Sharks and the Red Rangers, composed of both organic and outsourced PMO employees, battled it out in an electrifying cheer dance competition in the opening ceremony, setting the tone for exciting events to come.

Throughout the week, the diverse range of activities were carefully planned to entertain and engage everyone who were involved. Mixed volleyball matches and dart games should promote the spirit of teamwork and camaraderie.

Moreover, traditional games like 'Tumbang Preso' and 'Ikot-ikot Lang' (hula-hoop) definitely would bring back cherished childhood memories and added a touch of nostalgia to the festivities. Other games like 'Isang Saging Ka Lang,' 'Itanong mo sa Kamatis,' and 'Pinoy Henyo' would also be up for grabs to foster friendly competition and a joyous atmosphere.

On Friday, 28 July 2023, a tree planting activity was conducted at the Forest Park in Barangay Cagniog, Surigao City. Joining hands in harmony with nature, this tree planting activity  left a lasting impact on the environment, fostered a greener and healthier ecosystem for generations to come.

During the much awaited anniversary date on August 1, PMO employees extended helping hands to less fortunate individuals residing at the city’s "Bahay Pag-asa," a care facility dedicated to disadvantaged children. This act of benevolence is in line with the values of PMO Surigao, reaffirming its commitment to making a positive impact on the lives of those in need.

Established on August 1, 1977, the Port Management Office of Surigao (PMO Surigao) was created by the Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) with the objective of efficiently managing and overseeing port operations in Surigao City. Taking over the responsibilities of port operations, maintenance, and related functions from the Bureau of Customs and the former Bureau of Public Works, PMO Surigao has since played a crucial role in the Philippine maritime and logistics industry.
