PDI receives accolade on resilience

Notwithstanding the compounded impact of Super Typhoon Odette and the pandemic, the Province of Dinagat Islands continues to gear up and strengthen disaster resilience of its local government units and communities, as it proudly received the Beyond Complaint Award of the Gawad KALASAG with a rating of 2.86 from the Caraga Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (DRRMC), during the region's National Disaster Resilience Month (NDRM) culmination program and Regional Awarding of Gawad KALASAG (KAlamidad at Sakuna LAbanan, SAriling Galing ang Kaligtasan) Seal for LGUs and Special Awards in DRRM and Humanitarian Assistance for calendar year (CY) 2023 on August 14, 2023 at Almont Inland Resort in Butuan City.
"This award is a simple manifestation of the bravery of the Province of Dinagat Islands, especially after COVID-19 and Super Typhoon Odette. Rest assured that DRRM continues to be a priority of the province," according to provincial DRRM officer Rosario Jra. R. Alon, who received the GK plaque, Certificate of Compliance and Certificate of Commendation for the PLGU.
With 86% participation rate of the province in the said accolade, the following LGUs in the Province of Dinagat Islands were acknowledged as esteemed Gawad KALASAG awardees, together with their respective local DRRM council/office, to mention:
-LGU-Tubajon as Beyond Compliant with a rating of 2.95;
-LGU-Basilisa as Beyond Compliant with a rating of 2.57;
-LGU-Cagdianao as Fully Compliant with a rating of 2.22;
-LGU-Loreto as Fully Compliant with a rating of 2.20;
-LGU-Dinagat as Fully Compliant with a rating of 1.67; and
-LGU-San Jose as Fully Compliant with a rating of 1.64.
For this year, Caraga Region has 74 participating LGUs, including the five provinces, six cities and 63 municipalities, wherein 39 were declared as Beyond Compliant, 31 Fully Compliant and four as Partially Compliant LGUs.
Celebrating its 25th glorious, silver years, the Gawad KALASAG (GK) sustains to serve as the country’s prime recognition and award scheme for disaster resilience, and to motivate and inspire various stakeholders in the promotion and implementation of DRRM, climate change adaptation (CCA), and humanitarian assistance programs that protect and shield high risk communities against extreme hazards, thus empowering them to be more capable of addressing their vulnerabilities.
