HCWs undergo infection control training in Caraga

BUTUAN CITY --  The Department of Health - Center for Health Development (DOH-CHD) Caraga conducted the comprehensive two-day training on Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) and Healthcare Waste Management Updates, at VCDU Convention Center in Butuan City last July 27 to 28, 2023.

The program equipped the healthcare professionals with the knowledge and skills necessary to prevent and contain infections within healthcare settings. By providing an overview of how infections spread and offering detailed recommendations tailored to different healthcare environments, the training significantly reduced the incidence of healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) across facilities.

The program commenced with an engaging activity overview, expertly led by Dr. Arlien Marie Fe A. Buhain, DOH Caraga medical officer and HFDU RPNRU head.

Throughout the training, eight crucial modules were highlighted, covering various aspects of infection prevention and control:

Each module was meticulously discussed by Norberto T. Gajo Jr., DOH Caraga IPC regional coordinator, together with Dr. Ma. Carmela My Beltran, DOH Caraga HFEP coordinator, providing participants with  comprehensive understanding of the necessary protocols and best practices.

Subsequently, the importance of hand hygiene was emphasized in a dedicated session led by James Anthony Adem, RN, IPC coordinator at Valencia Galido Plaza Memorial Hospital. The critical role of proper healthcare waste management was then explored in a session led by Engr. Franklin D. Saavedra Jr., HCWM GSHF coordinator.

The program also recognized and celebrated creativity and awareness through an ceremonial awarding of winners of the Infection Prevention and Control Tiktok Challenge and Photojournalism contest, with the theme, "Beyond Pandemic: Highlighting the Importance of IPC." (DOH-CHD Caraga/PIA Caraga)
