Economic managers to hold post-SONA briefing

Following the State of the Nation Address (SONA) of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., the administration’s economic managers will hold the second post-SONA Philippine Economic Briefing (PEB) at the PICC on July 25, 2023.

The post-SONA PEB will serve as a platform for the economic team to brief the non-government sector on the latest developments in the country’s economic performance and key structural reforms. It will also flesh out future policies and programs toward a prosperous, inclusive, and resilient economy.

Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) Governor Eli M. Remolona Jr. will deliver the opening message, followed by a fireside chat between Department of Finance (DOF) Secretary Benjamin E. Diokno and Nomura's Managing Director and Chief Economist Euben Paracuelles covering fiscal outlook and macroeconomic assumptions.

The finance chief will also join the panel discussion on the administration's achievements and future development plans, together with the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) principal economist Joselito R. Basilio as  representative of Secretary Amenah F. Pangandaman, National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) Secretary Arsenio M. Balisacan, and BSP Deputy Governor Francisco G. Dakila Jr. This will be moderated by DBM Undersecretary Margaux Salcedo and BSP Managing Director Antonio Lambino II.

A second panel discussion will gather representatives from the private sector, including Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI) President George Barcelon; Management Association of the Philippines (MAP) President Benedicta Du-Baladad; American Chamber of Commerce of the Philippines Executive Director Ebb Hinchliffe; and SM Investments Corporation Vice Chairperson Teresita Sy-Coson.

International Monetary Fund (IMF) Representative Ragnar Gudmundsson and Asian Development Bank (ABD) Country Director Pavit Ramachandran will also share their views on the country’s economic performance and socioeconomic agenda. DOF Undersecretary Maria Luwalhati Dorotan-Tiuseco and Nomura's Managing Director and Chief Economist Euben Paracuelles will moderate this second panel discussion.

The post-SONA PEB will also be held in other parts of the country, such as in the cities of Davao, Cebu and Laoag, in August 2023. (DBM/PIA Caraga)
