DA turns over 50 units of fiberglass boats to fisherfolk in Tandag

TANDAG CITY, Surigao del Sur ---- In a bid to boost the sustainable livelihood of the Tandaganon fisherfolk, some 50 units of new 30-footer fiberglass-reinforced plastic (FRP) boats were successfully turned over by the Department of Agriculture-Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (DA-BFAR) Caraga led by Regional Director Omnia B. Olama to the local government unit of Tandag City headed by Mayor Roxanne Pimentel, to provide the fisherfolk with modern and reliable vessels essential for their daily fishing activities under the Bangka Ko, Gawa Ko project.

The FRP boats were gratefully received by the fisherfolk-beneficiaries on April 28, 2023 at Barangay Mabua, Tandag City, which was graced by First District representative and house committee chair on Public Works and Highways, Engr. Romeo S. Momo, Sr. and Provincial Governor Alexander Pimentel.

Fiberglass-reinforced plastic boats are known for their durability, lightweight, and resistance to corrosion, making them ideal for the coastal environment.

The Bangka Ko, Gawa Ko project is a component program of the of the DA-BFAR under the F/B Pagbabago Livelihood and Development Program which was funded by former Senator Francis 'Kiko' Pangilinan, it was learned. (NGPB/JDD/with a report from LGU-Tandag City/PIA-Surigao del Sur)
