Bislig farmers, fisherfolk associations receive agri-machinery from gov't

BISLIG CITY, Surigao del Sur -- The local government unit of Bislig City headed by Mayor Florencio C. Garay, through the City Agriculture Office celebrated the Farmers and Fisherfolk Month with the theme, "Masaganang Agrikultura, Maunlad na Ekonomiya," on May 17, 2023 at Bislig City Cultural and Sports Center.

Surigao del Sur Governor Alexander T. Pimentel, 2nd District Board member Atty. Conrad Cejoco, and Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) Caraga Regional Director Omnia B. Olama, together with representatives from the Philippine Center for Post-harvest Development and Mechanization (PhilMech) and  Office of the Provincial Agriculture of this province attended the activity.

The annual celebration has recognized the admirable contributions of the farmers and fisherfolk in ensuring food security and sustainability in the community.

The turn-over of the agricultural machinery to the accredited associations in Bislig City highlighted the event.

The beneficiaries are the following:

 1. Baucawe Community and Farmers Irrigators Association, Inc. (BCFIA), from PhilMech:

• one unit of six tons recirculating dryer

• one unit of walk-behind rice transplanter


2. Western Visayas Agro-Industrial Cooperative (WEVAICO), from PhilMech:

• one unit of six tons recirculating dryer

• one unit of rice combine harvester

• two units of rice reaper

 

3. Tumanan Farmers and Fisherfolk Association (TUFFA), from PhilMech:

• one unit of four wheel drive tractor

• one unit of rice combine harvester

• two units of walk-behind rice transplanter; from the LGU:

• one unit of turtle type floating tiller 

• one unit of thresher

 

4.  Barangay Caguyao Farmers Association (BACAFARA), from PhilMech:

• one unit of four wheel drive tractor

• one unit of rice combine harvester; from the LGU:

• one unit of turtle type floating tiller

• one unit of thresher

5.  Barangay Comawas Farmers Association (BCFA), from PhilMech:

• one unit of four wheel drive tractor

• one unit of walk-behind rice transplanter from the LGU:

• one unit of hand tractor

• one unit of multi-purpose drying pavement (MPDP)

6. Bislig Baybay Fisherfolk Association, from the provincial government of Surigao del Sur:

• one unit of  high-density polyethylene (HDPE) or Norwegian fish cage with fingerlings and feeds. (CIO-Bislig/NGPB, PIA-Surigao del Sur)
