Port of Surigao within DENR limits for air quality, ambient noise

SURIGAO CITY, Surigao del Norte -- The Port of Surigao is compliant with the limits set by the Environmental Management Bureau of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) in terms of air quality and ambient noise levels.

According to the results of an air quality test conducted on April 18, 2023, at the Port of Surigao's operational areas for one-hour, total suspended particulates (TSP) were recorded at 15 micrograms per cubic meter (ug/NCM) at Gate 5 area, while 16.1 ug/NCM was recorded at Gate 1. These figures are significantly below the DENR's allowable limit of 300 ug/NCM.

Moreover, the ambient noise levels at the port were also found to be well within the allowable limits. The measurements were taken during three periods of the day: daytime, early evening, and late night. The minimum noise level recorded was 50.6 decibels A (dBA), while the maximum was 62.8 dBA. The DENR has set the allowable noise level limit at 70 dBA.

These findings were results of a comprehensive evaluation conducted by the DENR's Environmental Management Bureau, aimed at assessing the environmental impact of the Port of Surigao's operations. The bureau's inspection team conducted several tests and evaluations to ensure that the port's operations comply with environmental standards. (PPA-PMO Surigao/PIA- Surigao del Norte)
