Mixing innovation with tradition: Local bakeshop partners with DOST
SURIGAO CITY, Surigao del Norte -- One of the longest-running bakeries in Surigao City, has partnered with the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) to procure new and high-capacity production equipment that will surely boost its productivity and competitiveness in the market.
This partnership is now formalized after the signing of the memorandum of agreement held on March 15, 2023 at the Provincial Science and Technology Office in Surigao del Norte with the project title “New Cardinal Bakeshop Upgrade: Leveraging Science and Technology for Product Development and Improved Operations.”
New Cardinal Bakeshop is a family-owned bakery established in 1960 that has a rich history and reputation for providing affordable and high-quality baked goods. After the firm’s decades of serving bread to the Surigaonons, a Science and Technology upgrade, through DOST SETUP, will modernize and improve the bakeshop’s operations, allowing it to continue to thrive and provide the same high quality products to its customers.
The Small Enterprise Technology Upgrading Program (SETUP) is a flagship program of the DOST that provides technical and financial assistance to MSMEs in adopting innovative technologies for improved operations and increased productivity. Through SETUP, MSMEs can access a wide range of support services, including equipment acquisition and upgrading, consultancy services and skills training, empowering them to enhance their business operations and competitiveness.
