LGU-Hinatuan celebrates 19th National Dental Health Month

HINATUAN, Surigao del Sur -- The Local Government Unit of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur through the Municipal Health Office (MHO) – Dental Section celebrated the 19th National Dental Health Month with the theme, “Ibigin ang Bibig! Sa bibig na malusog at alaga, masustansyang pagkain enjoy hanggang pagtanda."

The event kicked off on February 16 with a motorcade around the thoroughfare of Hinatuan town and ended at the Municipal Gymnasium for the formal launching and opening program. Thereafter, free oral care services such as fluoride varnish, tooth-brushing, Atraumatic Restorative Treatment, dental education through giving of information, education and communication materials, and distribution of Dental Kits to the residents of the LGU.

Local dentists with their dental assistants led by Dr. Eleonora G. Rosales facilitated the activities. They were also joined by other dentists from the province through the Provincial Health Office (PHO) headed by Dental Coordinator, Dr. Merla T. Cubero.

Municipal Mayor Shem “TiTing” Galano Garay graced the activity and encouraged the parents and guardians to teach and guide their children on how to take good care of their teeth.

"It is important that parents should teach their children to properly brush their teeth and to have regular check up with the dentist," Mayor Garay said.

Meanwhile, National Dental Health Month is celebrated every month of February, pursuant to Proclamation No. 559 issued in 2004. It aims to strengthen public awareness on the importance of good oral hygiene and health. (NGPB/Gemma S. Millan, IO LGU-Hinatuan/PIA-Surigao del Sur)
