PPA Surigao City security screener does it again, returns sling bag with cash

SURIGAO CITY, Surigao del Norte -- For Security Screener John Rey Yap, honesty is a virtue that must define his first day at work for the new year.

For the second time around, Yap found a sling bag containing around P11,590.00 cash and IDs left behind at the port’s Baggage X-ray Machine while on duty at the Port of Surigao's Passenger Terminal Building security inspection area late afternoon on January 2,  2023.

Yap again immediately sought help from the Port Police Officer on duty, who then tried to locate the owner based on Identification Cards found inside the bag.

Within minutes, a grateful Oiram M. Urbiztondo, showed up at PMO Surigao’s Port Police Division Headquarters to claim the bag. Urbiztondo got his belongings back after having been verified as the rightful owner.

It may be recalled that on  July  3, 2022, Yap successfully returned P80,000 in cold cash contained inside a bag left behind in the Baggage X-ray Machine Conveyor at the Port of Surigao Passenger Terminal Building. The security screening unit is under the direct supervision of PMO Surigao’s Port Police Division. (PPA- PMO Surigao/PIA- Surigao del Norte)
