SURSECO-II employees undergo capability building on RA 11552

TANDAG CITY, Surigao del Sur --To produce, institute and equip employees the knowledge on Republic Act No.  11552 entitled,  "Extending and Enhancing the Implementation of Lifeline Rate", the Surigao del Sur Electric Cooperative II (SURSECO-II) spearheaded the Orientation Workshop on the New Procedures and Business Flow on the Implementation of the Lifeline Rate Discount recently held at the Bayay Tapukan, SURSECO II main Office in Tandag City.

With the enactment of RA 11552, electricity consumers living below the poverty line will continue receiving lifeline rate discounts until 2051. This law also aims for the fair and equitable distribution of the lifeline subsidy among qualified beneficiaries.

The “lifeline rate” or the socialized pricing mechanism for marginalized end-users is to be set by the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) and the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) with recommendation from respective distribution utilities.

The SURSECO II's current  lifeline rate and  corresponding discount  as approved by the ERC are given to residential consumers using 1 to 20 kWh only per month.

The ERC, Department of Energy (DOE), and Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), in consultation with the PSA and other public and private stakeholders, issued the implementing rules and regulations  (IRR) of  RA11552. (SURSECO-II/PIA-Surigao del Sur)
