POPCOM Caraga chairs RGADC for 2023-2025 

BUENAVISTA, Agusan del Norte -- The Commission on Population and Development (POPCOM) – Caraga Regional Director, Alexander A. Makinano was elected as the Chairperson for the Regional Gender and Development Committee (RGADC) of the Regional Development Council (RGD) for CY 2023-2025 during its 24th Quarterly Meeting on November 8, 2022 at NEDA Regional Office, Butuan City. 

Director Makinano is the first male to lead the council to advance the women empowerment and gender equality in the region.

Makinano in his message said that, the leadership would be an overwhelming task; but he will take it humbly and responsibly. The Co-Chairperson is yet to be elected, from the Private Sector Representatives (PSRs).

Another highlight of the said meeting which was presided by Atty. Aurora Luanne C. Ramos, Acting Chairperson, Regional GAD Committee and Officer In-Charge of the Commission on Human Rights (CHR) Caraga, is the activities on the upcoming 18-Day Campaign to End Violence Against Women (VAW) was also discussed. One of the activities is the Kick-off Parade, presenting the Orange Your Float in line with the theme “United for a VAW-Free Philippines”, which will be participated by all RDC-RGADC Member Agencies and LGU Butuan.

The Regional GAD Resource Program Batch 2 was also presented during the meeting, and representative from the Philippine Commission of Women (PCW) also provided information regarding the CY 2023 RGADC PCW Work Plan, RGADC Summit, Submission of GPB 2023, and GAD LLH Certification via Zoom platform.  (Dian Joy L.
