OPAg trains Police personnel in vegetable production

Tandag City, Surigao del Sur  - The Provincial  Government of Surigao del Sur through the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist (OPAG) in partnership with the Department of Agriculture-Caraga expanded its drive to promote vegetable production from Peoples Organization to Army and the Police camps through the "Gulayan sa Kampo" program.

Some 24 policemen and women from Philippine National Police of Surigao del Sur Provincial Office underwent a whole-day training on vegetable production conducted by OPAG-High Value Crops Development Program (HVCDP)  personnel.

In the training, Domingo Viduya, the HVCDP Coordinator, emphasized the importance of lowland vegetable which is low maintenance and very easy to propagate.

Other speakers from OPAG, City Agriculture Office-Tandag, and LGU Carmen also highlighted the supply-demand of vegetables and how we can turn vegetable farming into a reliable source of income.

The police officers received free seeds and fertilizers as starting inputs for their in-camp vegetable garden.

Police Lt. Col Emmanuel Guillermo, PNP-SDS Chief Admin Officer, thanked the Provincial Government under the leadership of Gov. Ayec T. Pimentel.

The official also urged the policemen and women to impart their knowledge to other local police stations. (PIA-Surigao del Sur)
