Gov't communicators, media partners join leadership training by Butuan PIO

BUTUAN CITY -- The local media partners and government communicators including the Philippine Information Agency (PIA) Caraga actively took part in the Leadership Training for Media Partners facilitated by the Butuan City Public Information Office (PIO) on October 17, 2022 at the Watergate Hotel, this city.

Cynth Zephanee Nietes, Sanggunaing Kabataan (SK) Federation president of Butuan, discussed the strategic leadership and critical thinking on the concept of VUCA or the Volatility, Uncertainty, Complexity and Ambiguity World, a general condition in public service, information and communication.

In her discussion, she emphasized that the VUCA World challenges communicators and media partners to be game changers through innovation, adaptability, and wise investment in people and technology. "There is really a need for us to be adaptive of the changes around us because it's constant and inevitable," she said.

Owen M. Ducena, City Human Resource Management (CHRM) Officer of LGU-Butuan, served as the second session speaker and discussed "Power and Accountability" specifically on sources of power, the relationship between power and accountability, and different leadership styles.

He shared the 10 common leadership styles which include the autocratic/authoritarian, transactional, bureaucratic, charismatic, transformational, coaching, democratic, collaborative, servant, and the Laissez Faire, of which the participating media expressed appreciation for each style.

Ducena further stressed that there is no one-size-fits all leadership strategy. "With different personalities in human resource, an effective leader must 'mix and match' different leadership styles," he said.

Meanwhile, the Butuan City PIO through Michiko De Jesus also acknowledged all the participants for sharing their insights and for its commitment to practice in their daily lives the significant learnings they gained from the training.

PIA Caraga received a plaque of appreciation for its enduring commitment to partner with the City Government of Butuan, adhering to the ethical standards set by the Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster sa Pilipinas (KBP) and other government bodies, and fostering reliable information campaign.

Assistant Regional Director Renelle Escuadro, together with Jennifer Gaitano, Information Officer III, and Ronnie Madanguit, Audio-Visual Technician II, also received certificates of participation for the said activity. (RLE/JPG/PIA-Caraga)
