PBBM: Modernizing gov’t, harnessing digitization key to boosting economic recovery
Filipinos can expect the country to begin emerging from the crippling effects of the coronavirus pandemic, President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. said Tuesday.
This developed as he declared that his government is striving hard to usher the nation towards economic recovery by modernizing the government and harnessing digitization.
“We can expect that the Philippines will finally begin to emerge from the difficulties that we have been going through in the past two and a half years,” Marcos said in an interview with TV host and actress Toni Gonzaga aired on ALLTV when asked about public expectations from the Marcos presidency.
“But I think there really is a very grand opportunity. We just got some economic statistics yesterday and today. I really am going to work very hard on the economy, and that is based very much on agriculture. So ‘yan ang tinatrabaho ko ngayon.”
Among the current thrusts, he said are the normalization and modernization of government functions to allow wider public participation.
Through these initiatives, the people will know the part where they can play, especially private investors.
“If they’re private investors, they know what is interesting to them, they know how to get it done. Now, even not investors but ordinary people, they want to get a business permit, they need to get a license. They need to get accreditation. We’ll keep it simple,” he said.
The President said he hopes for successful digitalization of government business to help prop up the economy, stressing better internet coverage would increase workforce efficiency.
“We’ll modernize the functions of government. We’ll make it easier for people to work with government, both ordinary citizens and also the big shots, the investors that want to put a business here in the Philippines,” he said.
One of the President’s priorities is improving the country’s agriculture sector and ensuring food security.
He has taken over the agriculture portfolio to realize this goal.
To achieve those objectives, he vowed to build more infrastructure in the agriculture sector, remove the gridlocks in the supply chain, and streamline the functions of the agriculture department. | PND
