Globalport Deploys New Forklifts at the Port of Surigao

SURIGAO CITY, Surigao del Norte (PIA) -- To further boost the material-handling capability and versatility of its cargo handling operations, Globalport Surigao Terminals Inc. has acquired and deployed heavy-lift mobile equipment for use at the Port of Surigao.

Four (4) Mitsubishi Caterpillar forklifts, with a safe workload of 3 tons each, as well as one 5-tonner, and a SANY heavy-duty forklift with a rated capacity of 16 tons have been deployed to augment Globalport Surigao’s equipment fleet to ensure safer and more efficient handling of various commodities, boxed palettes, bagged cargoes, and other non-containerized shipments.

In line with Globalport’s commitment to safe and environment-friendly port operations, these state-of-the-art forklifts are powered by low-emission engines that can provide adequate force even at low revolution, reduced fuel consumption and low noise levels. Further, these are fitted with on-board fire suppression system, and anti-rollover protection, among other safety features.

More importantly, these forklifts are equipped with Presence Detection System.  The system makes sure that the forklift does not work if the driver is not in the driver's seat. Not only will the forklift not drive; all the hydraulic functions are automatically disabled.

PMO Surigao Acting Port Manager Froilan Caturla expressed appreciation for the latest efforts of Globalport Surigao Terminals Inc. to modernize its’ cargo handling operations at the Port of Surigao.

“Globalport Surigao’s latest acquisition of modern cargo handling equipment for the Port of Surigao is commendable and showed sincerity in honoring   development commitments made, not just to the Philippine Ports Authority, but also to the port users of the Surigao Baseport,” PMO Surigao Acting Manager Froilan Caturla said in a statement made during simple ceremonies held on September 15, 2022.
