Drug peddlers arrested, more than Php36k shabu seized in separate SDN buy-bust ops

BUTUAN CITY-- Two separate buy-bust operations in Surigao del Norte resulted in the confiscation of illegal drugs worth Php36,720 on August 24, 2022.

Police Brigadier General Romeo M. Caramat, Jr., regional director of the Police Regional Office-13 (PRO-13), disclosed that around 9:50 PM at Purok 2, Barangay Rizal, municipality of Socorro, operatives from Socorro Municipal Police Station (MPS), Surigao del Norte Provincial Drug Enforcement Unit, and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) Regional Office 13 apprehended Nixon Laugo Mesias, 49 years old.

Found in his possession were three pieces of heat-sealed transparent plastic sachets containing 3.7 grams of suspected shabu with a standard drug price (SDP) value of Php25,160, Php500 marked money, and a cellular phone.

Meanwhile in Purok Azucena, Barangay Taft, Surigao City, Ephraim Delgado Esmeralda alias Poloy, 40 years old, fish vendor, and a resident of P-9, Aneco, Cabadbaran City was caught in the act of selling drugs by Surigao City Police Station Drug Enforcement Unit around 3:00 AM.

A total of 1.7 grams of suspected methamphetamine hydrochloride or “shabu” with an SDP value of Php11,560 and Php1,000 marked money was confiscated from Esmeralda.

According to Surigao City police, Esmeralda was already arrested in 2017 by the Dapa Municipal Police Station operatives and was released from the Provincial Jail in 2020 after availing the plea-bargaining agreement.

PBGen. Caramat, Jr. affirmed that PRO-13 will continue to team up with concerned government agencies to put an end to illegal drug use and abuse in the region.

"Under my watch, I will not tolerate any illegal drug activities in our region. They will face the consequences of their actions. Let this serve as a warning," said Director Caramat. (Police Regional Office-13/PIA-Surigao del Norte)
