Reservist commander elaborates the benefits of joining ROTC to NEMSU students

TANDAG CITY, Surigao del Sur -- The Group Commander Colonel Diosdado E Peji of 15th Regional Community Defense Group, Reserve Command, Philippine Army, stated the benefits of joining the Reserve Officers' Training Corps (ROTC) during his talk at the Class Opening and Orientation of North Eastern Mindanao State University (NEMSU) on Monday, August 08, 2022, in Tandag City, Surigao del Sur.

ROTC, as one of the three components of the National Service Training Program (NSTP), is offered in colleges and universities. During his talk, Col Peji highlighted the vital role of the ROTC program in developing youth's nationalism and patriotism, and in nation-building.

As a product of ROTC himself, Col Peji elaborated on the benefits of the ROTC Program.

According to him, the ROTC promotes discipline, respect, love of country, and resiliency among youth.

It also develops leadership skills; prepares the youth for non-combat duties such as humanitarian and disaster response during emergencies and calamities; great opportunity to become a military officer; automatically enlisted into the reserve force of the Philippine Army; and scholarship and cash incentives for advance ROTC Program.

Aside from the benefits mentioned, Col Peji further said that the ROTC program prepares the youth for national security such as wars and invasion, and will help them to stay away from deceptive recruitment of Communist Terrorist Groups (CTGs).

“The ROTC Program will teach our youth to voluntarily perform their duties for our country. "(Source: PFC Mendoza, 15RCDG/PIA-Surigao del Sur)
