NIA Caraga
continues rehabilitation of irrigation facilities
The National Irrigation Administration (NIA) Caraga continues to repair and rehabilitate the Taguibo dam, one of the worst hit by typhoon Odette last December 16, 2021.
After Typhoon Odette hit the region, the National Irrigation Authority (NIA) Caraga recorded a total of P 105 million in damage to the irrigation facilities (dams, canals, drainage, IA halls, etc.).
Cabadbaran-Taguibo River Irrigation System (CabTRIS), a National Irrigation
System is serving a total of 2,891 farmer-beneficiaries and has a service area
of 3,606.32 hectares. It has two dams located in Cabadbaran City and Barangay
Taguibo, Butuan City, all in Agusan del Norte.
The dam located in Barangay Taguibo,, Butuan City is one of the worst hit
facilities that needed urgent repair given the extent of the damage and to
reduce the economic loss of the farmers and community in the area.
The repair with a total cost of 33 million that started last May 25, 2022, and
is expected to be completed on November 20, 2022.
According to Jane Huqueriza, Public Relations Officer, as of August 5, 2022,
the repair completion is at 49.3%. She also added that despite the extent
of the damage caused by the typhoon, NIA is able to provide water services to
all the farmers in the area.
The National Irrigation Authority (NIA) coordinated with the Taguibo River
Water Quality Management Area (TRWQMA) on the schedule of the release of water
from the Butuan City Water District (BCWD) dam to ensure the safety of the
