POPCOM Caraga supports PBBM to lead agriculture department

The Commission on Population and Development (POPCOM) Caraga is very optimistic, and sees opportunity for collaboration to President Ferdinand “Bong-bong” R. Marcos, Jr. action as the secretary of the Department of Agriculture (DA), placing the agency as his administration’s top governance and budgetary priorities.

POPCOM Caraga Regional Director, Alexander A. Makinano, said that rapid population growth is one of the major development challenges coupled with land degradation. RD Makinano continued that POPCOM as a partner of DA in bringing Responsible Parenthood and Family Planning (RPFP) to communities in the region, more livelihood opportunities for farmers and fisherfolk will be provided.

If this opportunity complements efficient agricultural policies and strategies, the growing population can access adequate yield for home consumption as well as household income, RD Makinano explained.

Many sectors are hopeful that with PBBM administering the DA personally, this will carry out reforms in the agency to improve the quality of life of the present and future generations. The sectors said that the agriculture industry can now heave a sigh of relief that domestic food production and logistics will be given priority in the new administration. (Dian Joy L.
