Caraga stakeholders to march for Pride, equality

BUTUAN CITY – The Commission on Human Rights (CHR) Caraga and its partners will culminate its commemoration of June as Pride Month through a Pride Parade in Butuan City this June 24, 2022. Participants and allies will assemble as early as 3:00 pm at the Guingona Park, Butuan City before marching towards the covered court of the Agusan del Norte Provincial Capitol.

A Solidarity Activity will follow at the covered court where representatives from partner agencies, organizations, and newly-elected district representatives are expected to share their messages of support and commitment for the continued call for the passage of a comprehensive legislation that will uphold the respect for the rights of all persons regardless of sex, gender, disability or other distinction, and prohibit various acts of discrimination against these marginalized sectors.

Further, the event will serve as CHR Caraga’s opportunity to formalize its partnership with LGBTQIA+ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Intersex, Asexual) organizations with the view of simplifying mechanisms in extending assistance, and to recognize institutional Gender Ombud partners.

Atty. Aurora Luanne R. Cembrano-Ramos, CHR Caraga’s Officer-in-Charge, is thrilled with the idea of gathering in support of the LGBTQIA+ community.

“I am excited that Caraga Region, through our Office and our partners, has decided to join the chorus of people in the entire World reclaiming ‘Pride’ and embracing it as a wonderful word that symbolizes the desire of the LGBTQIA+ community to never again be ashamed with who they are; never again settle for less than what they deserve; to never again accept that who they are is an apt explanation for the discrimination they have suffered. We stand firm in the mantra that ‘All human, all equal,” said Ramos.

The Pride Parade is organized by CHR Caraga together with its partners, namely: Garbo Agusan del Norte, Ladlad Caraga Region Incorporated, LGTBQ Butuan, Mindanao Pride, the Sangguniang Kabataan Federations of Butuan City and Province of Agusan del Norte, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Caraga, and Regional Gender and Development Committee (RGADC) Caraga.
