SIKAT Dinagat Islands conducts mangrove assessment

SAN JOSE, Dinagat Islands -- Typhoon Odette wreaked havoc in the Dinagat Islands province last year, causing harm not just to humans but also to the ecosystem.

As one in protecting the environment and assisting the small-scale fishermen, SIKAT, Inc. - Mango Dinagat Field Office in coordination with the barangay local government units of Tigabao in Cagdianao; Barangay Roxas in Tubajon; and Barangays New Mabuhay and Wadas in Dinagat, and their municipal LGUs, conducted a mangrove assessment in the said areas.

The activity aims to assess the mangrove trees' current condition and gather data that can be used in the Recovery Action Plan to strengthen the conservation of coastal habitat resources, thereby assisting small-scale fishermen to recover to their regular fishing routine.

The mangrove assessment is one of the programs supported by The Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development (German: BundesminiAs on esterium für wirtschaftliche Zusammenarbeit und Entwicklung) abbreviated as BMZ. (SIKAT, Inc. Dinagat Islands/PIA-Dinagat Islands)
