SK village council in AgSur recognized for best practices

By Jennifer P. Gaitano

BUTUAN CITY – Secretary Martin Andanar of the Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) lauded the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) barangay council of San Vicente in Prosperidad, Agusan del Sur for being recognized as outstanding SK barangay council in the entire province.

According to SK federation chairperson Sarah Joy Florito of Barangay San Vicente in the municipality of Prosperidad, the council received the award for being a prime mover of change who helped in creating an impact and making sure that every Agsurnon youth has a proportionate participation in achieving a common goal towards making a better Agusan del Sur.

“One of our best practices is that we work as one for good, we build unity as an SK council, we build good leadership and we seriously perform our duties and responsibilities as SK council in our barangay,” said Florito.

Florito shared the different activities conducted by the SK barangay council which include the relief operations for senior citizens during this time of health crisis since they are vulnerable and are not allowed to go outside.

“We went house to house to distribute the goods for them so they won't have to go out,” she said.

The SK chair added that they also have programs for the youth. “We give focus on assisting the non-reader and slow-learner pupils/students especially during this time of COVID-19 pandemic. Through being an SK official and at the same time a teacher, I personally have a great concern for the students. And we in the council initiated a program like reading festivals and story-telling to ensure that they are still able to gain knowledge and learn things amid the pandemic," she said.
