PCOO celebrates Youth International Day through webinars promoting youth engagement in legislation, governance

MANILA - The Freedom of Information - Project Management Office has organized various virtual events in line with the celebration of the International Youth Day, Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) Undersecretary Kris Ablan reported on Thursday.

These include the third leg of the Transparency Legacy Digital Lecture series with the title #KasamaKabataan: Trailblazing FOI through youth engagement, which aims to showcase the youth's role in implementing Freedom of Information conducted last August 11, 2021.

“Paksa sa ating ikatlong digital series ang mga inisyatibo ng ating tanggapan at ilang partners at stakeholders sa patuloy na pagsulong ng FOI sa bansa [Topics highlighted  during the third digital series were the initiatives  of our offices and other stakeholders in promoting FOI in the country],” he said during the Network Briefing News with PCOO Secretary Martin Andanar.

Other topics discussed included FOI awareness, youth involvement in FOI legislation, and youth role in fighting misinformation and disinformation. Usec. Ablan thanked all the youth leaders who spared their time to join the virtual conference.

PCOO’s FOI-PMO also joined the virtual launching of the Seal of Good Youth Governance in the province of Laguna, which solidifies the efforts to advance good governance among youth leaders across the country.

“Ang Seal of Youth Governance ay isang merit-based na pagkilala sa mga organisasyong kabataan na nagpakita ng mabisang pamamahala. Ang SYG ang nagibgay po ng incentives para sa youth leaders na tuparin  ang kanilang mga mandato at itaas ang kanilang mga pamantayan sa pamamahala ng mga kabataan [The Seal of Youth Governance is a merit-based recognition of youth organizations that are exemplifying effective good governance. The SYG is giving incentives to youth leaders as they perform their duties and raise the standards of governance among youth],” Usec. Ablan said.

Partner agencies for this movement are GoodGovPH, Provincial Government of Laguna Youth Development Affairs Office, FOI Philippines, and the National Movement of Young Legislators.

This is also supported by the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Regional Office, the Sangguniang Kabataan Federation of Laguna and Galing Pook.
