Caraganons unite in a call to condemn CPP-NPA-NDF’s atrocities thru biking event

BUTUAN CITY -- Disheartened by what had happened to Keith and Novelene Absalon cousins and young cyclists from Masbate who had high hopes in achieving their dreams yet killed by the communist terrorist group, the Caraganons felt the need to level up efforts to end the abuses and atrocities caused by the Communist Party of the Philippine – New People’s Army – National Democratic Front (CPP-NPA-NDF), and intensify campaign and activities to call for justice on the brutal killing of the youth.

With the support of the local government units in the region, the “Bike for Peace and Justice” event is scheduled on Saturday, July 17, 2021 with participants from the Bikers Associations, youth organizations, and private stakeholders. This will be conducted simultaneously in different provinces of Caraga region.

Participating sectors will be wearing blue shirts, wristbands, and flaglets as they bike for this cause.

This is also a nationwide social mobilization activity to be participated by the members of the National and Regional Task Force - Ending Local Communists Armed Conflict (RTF-ELCAC), to strongly condemn the use of anti-personnel landmines, a violation of the International Humanitarian Law, and the brutal killing by the CPP-NPA to the Absalon cousins earlier this June 2021.

The Provincial Police Office along with its different Police Stations in the province of Agusan del Sur ensures that the conduct of "Bike for Peace and Justice" in different municipalities/city will be safe and systematic. All the participants will also be following the minimum health standards to prevent the transmission of COVID-19. The province observes a General Community Quarantine (GCQ) from July 16-31, 2021.

Streamers/tarpaulins for this event are hanged at their respective offices and other strategic areas to show support for this cause.

PNP Agusan del Norte provincial director PCol. Martin Gamba, together with the different municipal police stations in the province commits full support of said activity. He also called on all sectors in the society to unite in solving NPA violence and atrocities and to coordinate with their office or any government offices of any violent or illegal activities that they noticed in their areas.

Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Agusan del Norte provincial director Ellen Vee Chua has coordinated and directed all local government units in the province to support and also to hang tarpaulins in their municipalities. Director Chua also said that the provincial government will also display tarpaulins at the provincial capitol in Butuan City as a form of support to the event. (JPG/NCLM/PIA-Caraga)
