AgNor guv prioritizes developments in far-flung areas

By Nora C. Lanuza

BUTUAN CITY, Jun. 21 (PIA) – “Sleeping with the people,” this was the phrase that Governor Dale B. Corvera describes how the provincial government of Agusan del Norte works to realize its desire to provide Agusanons, especially those in the far-flung areas to have a satisfying life.

In his recent Governor’s Report, Governor Corvera narratesd how he interacts with the people in Sitio Bokbokon, Barangay Lawanlawan in the municipality of Las Nieves and Sitio Mimbahandi, Barangay Camagong in the Municipality of Nasipit together with the chiefs of the provincial offices and concerned municipal as well as partner national government agencies.  “This act (sleeping with the people), which we have done twice in the last couple of months, embodies the essence of what we have been doing since I took office as your provincial governor two years ago and what we intend to attain to realize our desire for a satisfying life for every Agusanon," he says.

Governor Corvera says that by visiting the areas (Bokbokon and Mimbahandi) – that are considered as hotbeds of the insurgency, they made them feel the warmth of the caring presence of the government that at times been absent in their lives. “By sleeping in these areas we showed them that the government is with them in their quest for peace to reign, and by eating with them, we imparted the message that the government is around to flex their economic prowess for them to reinvigorate and accelerate growth for everyone to live a life of abundance,” says Governor Corvera.

During their visit in the areas, different social services, medical/dental services, distribution of food packs and other services were provided to the residents in the area in partnership with different concerned government agencies. A dialogue was also conducted to know the needs of the residents and to gain support in combatting insurgency in the area. Also during the visit, the members of the New People's Army and residents supporting the terrorist movement have surrendered and withdrawn their support to the terrorist groups.

Despite the threat of COVID-19, Governor Corvera with the support of the province’s second district Representative Ma. Angelica Rosedell M. Amante-Matba continues to provide assistance for development to the different areas in the province through the AGUSAN UP, the eight-point development agenda of the province.

For every Agusanon to live a satisfying life, Governor Corvera says, his administration has adopted the long-drawn vision of the province as a stepping stone. The vision desires for the province to arrive at the following conditions by 2027: “The Agricultural Processing Center and Industrial Estate Zone in the Caraga Region driven by Godly, Efficient Service and Effective Governance towards a Progressive and Sustainable Environment.”

Also, Governor Corvera says that in order to arrive at the conditions desired in the above vision, the strategic directions for economic, social, infrastructure, environmental development and development governance should be set.

Governor Corvera says that his administration embarks on the AGUSAN UP! Development Campaign as its core process. It is being implemented through its four flagship programs, namely: Amomang Agusanon for social development concerns, Agus 3Ps or Plant and Process for Prosperity for economic development concerns, Lunhaw’ng Agusan for environmental development concerns and Hiniusang Lihuk Agusan for development governance and people empowerment concerns.
