Seaweeds production, processing and marketing to roll-out in Dinagat

SAN JOSE, Dinagat Islands, Oct. 27 (PIA) -- Another enterprise project is about to start its implementation with the launching of the Input Provision for Seaweeds Production, Processing, and Marketing in New Mabuhay, Dinagat town, this province.

The approved project is funded under the Department of Agriculture-Philippine Rural Development Project (DA-PRDP) amounting to P4.5 million.

Input provision includes the enterprise cost for propagules, soft tie, PE rope, floaters, trapal, life jackets, flashlights, headlights, boots & googles, weighing scale, motorized flatboat, and working capital for fresh seaweed purchase infrastructure cost for the construction of one unit seaweeds solar dryer and one unit storage warehouse.

The said project aims to support the 117 fisher-beneficiaries to have access to post-harvest facilities thereby increasing their productivity and profitability, and strengthen and expand their current enterprise on seaweeds.

The project is a joint undertaking of the DA-PRDP 13, the provincial government of Dinagat Islands, and the proponent group New Mabuhay Seaweed Farmers and Fisherfolk Association with the assistance of the Municipal Agriculture Office.

DA-13 Regional Executive Director Abel James I. Monteagudo and Governor Arlene "Kaka" Bag-ao led the launching of the said project. (DA-13/PIA-Dinagat Islands)
