Agusan Norte approves cash incentive to valedictorians, salutatorians

BUTUAN CITY, July 18 - The Sanggunaing Panlalawigan of Agusan del Norte recently approved Provincial Ordinance No. 453-2017, which provides cash incentives to all valedictorians and salutatorians in public and private elementary and secondary schools in the province.

Under the said ordinance, authored by Provincial Board Member Elizabeth Marie R. Calo, graduating valedictortians and salutatorians in public and private elementary and secondary schools in Agusan del Norte will receive cash incentives and a plaque each to be awarded on the day of their graduation. Valedictorians will receive P3,000.00 cash while salutatorians will receive P2,000.00 cash.

Provincial Board Member Calo said that the aim of the said ordinance is to value excellence in education. It also aims to recognize exemplary performance elementary and high school students in their respective schools through awards and incentives and inspire other students to achieve excellence in their studies.

The recipients of this cash incentives and plaque should be graduating as class valedictorian and salutatorian, a Filipino and a resident of the province of Agusan de Norte for at least six months.

The provincial government shall allocate funds in the amount of P1,400,000 under the General Fund starting this year 2017 and every year thereafter. This will cover the following schools: public elementary-186; private elementary-11; public high school-48; private high school-15 or a total of 197 public and private elementary and high schools.


The Community Affairs Officer of the province, in close coordination with the two Schools Division superintendents, Department of Education, Agusan del Norte and Cabadbaran City, is tasked to disseminate a widest information drive to all public and private elementary and high schools in the province regarding the program through their respective principals or directors.
