Caraganons to celebrate Mindanao Week of Peace 2016

BUTUAN CITY, Nov. 3 (PIA) – Caraganons will once again celebrate this year’s Mindanao Week of Peace (MWOP) with various lined-up activities by the Caraga Conference for Peace and Development (CCPD) from November 24 – December 1, 2016.

Butuan Bishop and CCPD convenor Most Rev. Juan de Dios Pueblos relayed that with this year’s theme “Protect and Respect Life,” the MWOP celebration will not only promote solidarity, cooperation and the culture of peace, but also for environment care and protection.

“The celebration of the Mindanao Week of Peace is not only a reaffirmation of our commitment for peace, but is also a reaffirmation of our commitment and advocacy of the value of life through peace and development,” added Bishop Pueblos.

The good bishop also bared that during the weeklong celebration, the bishops and ulama of Mindanao hope to raise the consciousness of the people of the need to work together to attain this dream to be united in peace.

It was also learned that said celebration will kick-off with the conduct of Serbisyo Peace Caravan on Nov. 24, 2016 in Agusan del Sur. The opening program, press conference and launching for the ‘Movie for Peace’ will also be conducted on the same date. Other activities will also be held in Butuan City. (JPG/PIA-Caraga)


CCPD bares set of activities for the 2016 MWOP celebration

BUTUAN CITY, Nov. 3 (PIA) – In line with this year’s Mindanao Week of Peace (MWOP) celebration, the Caraga Conference for Peace and Development (CCPD) have set different activities for all Caraganons from November 24 to December 1, 2016.

CCAP convenor Bishop Most Rev. Juan de Dios Pueblos disclosed that on November 24 (day 1), the CCPD together with the Office of the Presidential Adviser on Peace Process (OPAPP) will be spearheading the Serbisyo Peace Caravan in Agusan del Sur. On the same day, the opening program and press conference, as well as the launching of ‘Movie for Peace’ will also be held in the said province.

A tree planting activity is also set on November 25 (day 2), in partnership with the Department of the Environment and Natural Resources (DENR). The poster-making contest will then be held at the Robinsons Place, Butuan City on the same day.

“Also join us on our ‘Prayer Healing for Peace’ and Sikadayahan activity on November 26 at the Guingona Park, this city. On November 27, we will have the ‘Day of the Lord Prayer-Worship' in all churches," said Pueblos.

A Peace Forum for school-based and tri-people is also set on November 28-29. Meanwhile, a peace offering thru a bloodletting activity, as well as the Sports-Peace will be conducted at Bishop’s Home and St. Peter Seminary respectively.

It was also learned that on the last day, said celebration will culminate with the conduct of the 10th CCPD anniversary and closing program. The film showing and awarding for the ‘Movie for Peace’ contest will be held at Robinsons Place here.

DPWH Caraga to inspect Diosdado Macapagal Bridge with stakeholders

BUTUAN CITY, Nov. 3 (PIA) – The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Caraga will be inspecting the Diosdado Macapagal Bridge here together with other partner stakeholders and media partners on November 22, 2016.

According to DPWH Caraga regional director Danilo Versola, this is in line with the implementation of the project improvement for highways and bridge construction and maintenance, Phase III, wherein one of the major activities that will be undertaken is the conduct of site inspection of special bridges on selected regions.

“Fortunately, our own Diosdado Macapagal Bridge is one of them,” underlined Versola.

Versola further revealed that they will be using a drone camera during the site inspection. A short program will also be held at the same venue. (JPG/PIA-Caraga)


SURSECO II to hold BOD elections

TANDAG CITY, Surigao del Sur, Nov. 3 (PIA) – The Surigao del Sur Electric Cooperative, Inc. (SURSECO II) will hold elections for the four board of directors (BODs) positions in four districts under its coverage areas in the province.

According to SURSECO II information officer Aguinaldo “Aggie” Jaluag, SURSECO II has scheduled district elections for four positions in the electric cooperative’s Board of Directors (BODs) representing Cantilan (District XII), Lanuza (District IX), San Agustin (District I) and Lianga (District XIV) on November 5, 6, 12 and 13 respectively.

Meanwhile, the 27th Annual General Membership Assembly (AGMA) is also set on Nov. 26 to be held at Aras-asan Gymnasium in Aras-asan, Cagwait, this province. This year's theme is “Seryosong Serbisyo ALang Sa Seryosong Katagbawan." (NGBT/PIA-Surigao del Sur)


All set for children’s month celebration in Tandag

TANDAG CITY, Surigao del Sur, Nov. 3 (PIA) – To recognize the rights of children in participating the global and local responsibilities, the city government here thru the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) is all set for the 24th Children’s Month celebration.

The monthlong celebration carries the theme, “Isulong: Kalidad na Edukasyon para sa Lahat ng Bata.”

Tandag CSWD officer Tessie Buniel said the celebration is aimed to encourage the stakeholders promote and advocate children’s participation in decision making processes at all levels, within the family or in the community.

Based on the program, an “Awareness Walk on the Rights of the Child” is scheduled on Friday, Nov. 4 at 5:30 A.M. from the Old City hall bound to Vicente L. Pimentel Sr. Boulevard. A mass will then follow at 5:15 P.M. at the San Nicolas de Tolentino Cathedral, this city.

As part of the advocacy, George Salubre and Sangguniang Panlungsod Member Imelda Falcon will discuss the rights and responsibilities of the children in the society at Sure FM station on Nov. 5, 12, 19, and 26 at 10:00 -11:00 A.M.

On November 7, the Day Care Workers Federation of Tandag City from 21 barangays will be having a Lakbay Saya for Day Care Children, while the DepEd Tandag City Division will be holding a “BATASURERO” - a hands-on activity under the DepEd Leadership Training to be participated in by selected students from 31 schools, elementary and high school.

A DepEd Leadership Training and Kindergarten Festival of Talents will also be held on Nov. 17 to SPG officers and kindergarten pupils.

On Nov. 18, the 4th Children Congress will be held at the Tandag City Gymnasium to be participated in by the selected 4Ps children, and 50 special children from SPED Center. The activity will be highlighted with the State of the Children’s Address to be delivered by acting mayor Ruel Momo. A “KALANDRAKAS” will then follow in the afternoon, it was learned.

Buniel added that they have already conducted the training on Child Sexual Abuse Prevention for Stakeholders recently.

The month of November of every year is declared as “National Children’s Month” by virtue of Republic Act number 10661. This declaration commemorates the adoption of the Convention on the Rights of the Child by the United Nations General Assembly on 20 November 1989, and seeks to instill its significance in the Filipino consciousness. Education agencies convene for 2016 Education Summit

BUTUAN CITY, Nov. 3 (PIA) – The Department of Education (DepEd), Commission on Higher Education (CHED), and the Technical Education Skills Development Authority (TESDA) convene today for the 2016 Education Summit on Nov. 3 to 4 at the SMX Mall of Asia in Pasay City.

During the summit, the three education agencies – DepEd, CHED and TESDA will present their respective visions and agenda and to engage its broad stakeholders and constituents.

Butuan City schools division superintendent Arsenio T. Cornites, Jr. said the summit aims to share with the respective stakeholders the education vision and agenda for the trifocal education system, within a specified time frame.

Also, Cornites said that it is during this time that the participants will identify and address urgent concerns of he education sector, relate education with the allied agenda of other government agencies, as well as regional and international partners, and listen and respond to the issues, feedback, aspirations and proposals of stakeholders.
