Caraga RPOC spearheads 'Movie for Peace Project' for Mindanao Week of Peace

BUTUAN CITY, Sept. 20 (PIA) – The Regional Peace and Order Council (RPOC) of Caraga region with the Caraga Conference for Peace and Development is calling Caraganon student film makers for the Mindanao Week of Peace Movie contest.

Participants should be between 13 to 23 years old and officially enrolled for the school year 2016-2017.

Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Caraga regional director Lilibeth A. Famacion is requesting interested participants to join in an orientation meeting on Wednesday, September 21 at the Bishop’s House in Ampayon, this city for the complete details and mechanics of the contest.

The conduct of the activity is in partnership with the GIZ-conflict Sensitive Resource and Asset Management (COSERAM) and Forum Zfd.

DILG seeks community participation in MASA MASID program

BUTUAN CITY, Sept. 20 (PIA) – In its bid to empower communities and fortify people’s participation in the war against illegal drugs, corruption, and criminality through reliving the spirit of ‘bayanihan’ or volunteerism in the country, the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Caraga is encouraging more the locals in every barangay to help report any of these irregularities to lift the involved out from such quagmire.

By creating an umbrella organization to consolidate the efforts of the barangay-based institutions through the spirit of volunteerism, the MASA MASID (Mamamayang Ayaw Sa Anomaliya, Mamamayang Ayaw Sa Iligal Na Droga) program, a multi-sectoral and mass-based approach, shall mobilize and converge Ugnayan ng Barangay at Simbahan (UBAS) Barangay Action Teams (BATs) with the member civil society organizations (CSOs) and non-government organizations (NGOs) of barangay-based institutions.

“The Barangay Anti-Drug Abuse Council (BADAC) and Barangay Peace and Order Council (BPOC) in particular are also tasked to advocate crime prevention, peace and order, security, and in enhancing transparency and accountability in the barangay,” said DILG-13 regional director Lilibeth Famacion.

MASA MASID is designed to enhance the conduct of advocacy and education campaigns, information gathering and reporting to reduce the supply and demand of illegal drugs, and community-based rehabilitation program to address the need for interventions of the surrendering drug personalities.

“With this strategy, we can get immediate action from the people in the barangays since the program intends to heighten community involvement y mobilizing the support of the stakeholders, volunteers, civic organization, faith-based organizations and the private sectors,” stated Famacion.

The MASA MASID, which comes from Filipino words meaning "people" and "watch," also aims to create an enabling environment to encourage collaboration among the community partners to effectively implement the Community-Based Rehabilitation Program.

As indicated in the memorandum circular regarding the implementation of MASA MASID program, the Expended UBAS city/municipal technical working group (TWG) will serve as the social facilitator. OCD, AgNor PDRRMC to hold ICT Bayanihan for Agusan del Norte

BUTUAN CITY, Sept. 20 (PIA) – With the aim to address the concern on communications interoperability, commonality, and inter-compatibility in the province of Agusan del Norte, an ICT Bayanihan will be held on September 22 to 23 at the Almont Inland Resort, here.

According to Agusan del Norte Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (PDRRM) officer Erma Suyo, the two-day Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Summit will be participated by different provincial key ICT players of the Emergency Telecommunications, information officers, and partners from the private sectors and volunteer groups of the province.

The summit will give emphasis on the unity of efforts of all ICT key players using the existing legal frameworks, guidelines, agreements and programs of the country, Suyo said.

Also, the ICT Bayanihan will help in the establishment of Emergency Operations Centers (EOCs) and/or Onsite Operations and Coordination Centers (OSOCC) for humanitarian response in the province, she added.

AgNor PDRRMC to train council members on emergency response

BUTUAN CITY, Sept. 20 (PIA) – The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) of Agusan del Norte will hold a three-day Basic Incident Command System (ICS) on October 10 to 12 at the Gazebo Pools and Restaurant in Cabadbaran City.

PDRRM officer Erma Suyo said, the three-day ICS will train selected provincial employees and council members who have directly involve in the emergency response.

Also, it aims to develop a better appreciation and understanding of ICS and will also highlight the discussions on the core principle, features and functions of ICT, Suyo said.

The ICS is held in order to have a standardized approach to the command, control, and coordination of emergency response in the entire province and to provide a common hierarchy within which responders from multiple offices/agencies can be effective. (NCLM/PIA-Agusan del Norte)


Surigao Norte solon endorses actor Coco Martin as youth model

SURIGAO CITY, Surigao del Norte, Sept. 20 (PIA) – Surigao del Norte 2nd district representative Robert Ace S. Barbers commended ABS-CBN’s TV program “FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano” for raising crime awareness and prevention among the viewing public.

On Wednesday, September 14, 2016, Barbers filed House Resolution 358 to formally recognize "FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano" team’s effort and courage in tackling sensitive issues that are happening in real life.

“The producers, cast and crew of the TV show, FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano are doing a great job. Tila makatotohanan ang mga sitwasyon na pinapakita sa palabas,” said Barbers, who chairs the Committee on Dangerous Drugs in the House of Representatives.

“It is also important that real-life crimes are being showcased boldly, without filter, because it raises awareness amongst viewers, para maiwasan nila ang mabiktima o masangkot sa krimen,” Barbers said.

Likewise, the lawmaker recommended the endorsement of actor Coco Martin as celebrity advocate for a drug-free Philippines.

“As we continue to wage war against illegal drugs, we need an advocate who has the public’s trust, someone who has no criminal record and has never been involved in illegal drugs. I am confident that Coco Martin is perfect for the job,” Barbers expressed.

“At sa palagay ko itong si Coco Martin sinasapuso niya ang kanyang karakter bilang si Cardo Dalisay. He plays the role as if he’s a real-life cop.
