DOLE starts industry “profiling” in Caraga

By Greg Tataro Jr.

Tandag City, Surigao del Sur, Aug. 15 (PIA) – The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) in Caraga region has begun profiling industry precisely for carrying out new policies to protect both welfare of employers and employees on orders of Labor Usec. Joel Maglungsod.

Atty. Evelyn Ramos pointed out the importance of the endeavor, saying that their office would first focus on small medium enterprises (SMEs) and then on mining industry come third and fourth weeks of this month.

Beforehand, Ramos talked about plans on putting a stop to the practice of “End of Contractualization,” or “endo work,” citing that DOLE Secretary Silvestre Bello III had already issued advisory on all prohibitions on “labor only contracting” as well as Department Order No. 162, suspending temporarily the registration of manpower agencies.

She stressed that, regardless of the nature of work, abuse on alleged engagement in “555” or endo work should stop.

Meanwhile, in order to inform businesses in this regard, DOLE bared plans to hold a “forum cum assessment” with employers in the region.

The DOLE Caraga chief also corrected the misconception that workers under contractual status should not be entitled to labor standard benefits like SSS and Philhealth.

Pueblas. (NGBT/36IB-CMO/PIA-Surigao del Sur)
