During the opening program, DENR Caraga regional director Nonito M. Tamayo encouraged the participants to enjoy the sports.

“Sport makes a person’s body and mind healthy and strong,” RD Tamayo said.

“This sportsfest is timely since this is the time when wewill be recharged with additional energy and flex our muscles for works ahead to finish the remaining targets this year,” he added.

He said everyone who indulges in sports is already a winner. “Everyone must therefore encourage sports as medium for environmental advocacy. We used these sports as environmental advocacies to tell the people that healthy mind and sound body are important to become effective and champions in accomplishing our jobs in environmental management,” he said.

Meanwhile, Agusan del Norte provincial governor Ma. Angelica Rosedell Amante-Matba, the event's guest speaker, has affirmed her strong support to the DENR-Caraga in the implementation of environmental programs. “I commend DENR for holding this sports activity. This shows unity and camaraderie are strong in DENR,” Governor Matba said.

This years’ sportsfest is hosted by PENRO Agusan del Norte. The sportsfest 2015 is chaired by Legal Chief Atty. Claudio A. Nistal, Jr. as the over-all sports coordinator. (DENR-Caraga/PIA-Caraga)
