PopCom hosts Regional Pop Quiz, On-the-Spot contests

BUTUAN CITY, Dec. 13 (PIA) - Top students of the 12 school divisions showcased their talents in the recent Regional Population Quiz and On-the-Spot Contests (Essay Writing, Poster Making and Jingle Writing and Singing) dubbed as Festival of Talents.

Held annually, the event is open to all high school students both public and private to popularize, increase awareness and  appreciation on population issues and concerns and upgrade the student’s level of competence and confidence in facing life’s challenges.

Participating school divisions are Agusan del Sur, Agusan del Norte, Surigao del Norte, Surigao del Sur, Province of Dinagat Islands, Butuan City, Surigao City, Bislig City, Bayugan City, Siargao, Cabadbaran City, and Tandag City.

The following were adjudged as winners:

Population Quiz                   : Juvelyn P. Lauro, Agusan del Norte Division

Essay Writing Contest        : Methu Ela U. dela Calzada, Bayugan City Division

Poster Making Contest       : Philippe C. Monares, Butuan City Division

Jingle Writing & Singing     : Lalaine Tokong, Siargao Division

Each champion received cash prize, certificate of recognition, medal and trophy.

Commission on Population (PopCom) Caraga regional director Alexander A. Makinano said that the regional champions will represent Caraga to the national contests sometime in April 2015.

The contests are a joint undertaking of the PopCom and the Department of Education that serve as an avenue where the students can best showcase their talents. (POPCOM-13/PIA-Caraga)
