CRAM games start today

TANDAG CITY, Feb. 24 (PIA) - A total of 5,695 delegates from 12 school divisions in Caraga Region will battle it out starting today for the Caraga Regional Athletic Meet (CRAM) held in the different venues in Tandag City.

There are 29 different sports event including special games to compete participated by the school divisions of Agusan del Norte, Agusan del Sur, Bayugan City, Bislig City, Butuan City, Cabadbaran City, Dinagat Islands, Siargao, Surigao City, Surigao del Norte, Surigao del Sur, and Tandag City.

For Archery, Football boys (elementary) and Softball secondary the playing venue is at Buenavista National High School Campus, while the Softball elementary is at Buenavista Elementary School.

The table tennis boys and girls both elementary and secondary will be held at Surigao del Sur State University (SDSSU) in Barangay Rosario, while Volley Ball girls both elementary will be at Tandag City Plaza.

For billiard games, the venue is at Jag Recreation Billiard Hall in Barangay Bongtud, while for the Badminton, it will be at Venus Rendezvouz Badminton Court in Barangay Telaje.

The rest of the games will be held at Surigao del Sur Sports Center.

Surigao Sur solon emphasizes no race, boundaries in sports

TANDAG CITY, Feb. 23 (PIA) – In time with the opening ceremonies of the 17th Caraga Regional Athletic Meet (CRAM) held at the Provincial Sports Center, this city, Surigao del Sur 1st district representative Philip Pichay pointed out that sports is for everybody regardless of race, religion and affiliation.

"In sports, there is no race, no boundaries, for sports is for all of us. It treats us equally and fairly. Always remember that it is not on how you win or lose but on how you play the game," stressed Pichay.

Pichay reiterated that with sports, rich and poor are equal. “Whoever is committed to win in a game will win. It takes perseverance, patience and hard work,” he said.

He also said that sport and physical activity can make a substantial contribution to the well-being of people in the communities. Through this, it can lead people to a healthy lifestyle and can prevent different diseases.

Pichay further bared that he has established a sports program in the barangays where the youths can continuously enjoy different sports of their interest, which he also emphasized that it has developed the talents of the youths in the community.

DepEd Caraga chief encourages youth to participate in athletics

TANDAG CITY, Feb. 24 (PIA) – As the 17th Caraga Regional Athletic Meet (CRAM) officially opens on Sunday in this city, Department of Education Caraga regional director Atty. Alberto Escobarte gave particular emphasis for young generation to get involved in sports activities.

“Participating in athletic meet is an opportunity for our athletes to interfere with each other. While many new opponents will compete according to the rules of the games, the physical activities and interactions help build good camaraderie and social benefit,” said Escobarte.

He also bared that this year’s banner theme, “Sports: The Road to Peace and Progress,” is so timely for everyone to reckon with since sports is an avenue for friendship and reconciliation.

“Sports activities aid in the health, social and emotional improvement of any individual. It is a toll for peace and development and its programs greatly help children learn lifelong skills,” added Escobarte.

Moreover, he emphasized the intangible benefits of sports to the school and community as a whole.

“Being active in sports activities can be related to one having better cognitive functioning as higher grades and tests scores, satisfaction in school, engagement in extra-curricular activities, aspiration for college, and lower dropout rates,” said Escobarte.

FSUU declared champion in Caraga Culinary Show and Live Competition 2014

SURIGAO CITY, Feb. 24 (PIA) - The Father Saturnino Urios University (FSUU) Butuan City contingent was declared as over-all champion in the recently concluded 3rd Caraga Culinary Show and Live Competition held at St. Paul University Gym, this city.

This year’s competition is based on point system and the winning contingents received cash prize, medal, diploma and plague of appreciation, it was learned.

For student category: (Dessert Buffet) gold medal - Father Saturnino Urios University (FSSU); silver  medal - Caraga State University (CSU); bronze medal - St. Paul University (SPU) and Surigao State College of Technology (SSCT); diploma - Butuan Doctors College (BDC) and Systems Technology Institute (STI)-Surigao City; (Fruit and Vegetable Carving) silver - Caraga State University; bronze - SSCT and FSUU; (Table Setting) silver - FSUU and SSCT; bronze - CSU, SPU and STI-Surigao City.

For Table Skirting: silver - FSUU and STI-Surigao City; bronze - CSU, SPU and SSCT, and for mini-cake decorating, silver medal went to CSU; bronze medal - SPUS and diploma - FSUU. (Dual Flair) silver - FSUU and SSCT, and bronze - Caraga State University, and for (Chef Wars) silver - FSUU; bronze - CSU, SSCT and Butuan Doctors College, and diploma - SPUS.

While for the professional category: Narcisso’s Cake and Catering Services got the special award for cake decoration; (dessert buffet) gold medal - Randy Descarten; silver medal - SSCT and bronze medal - SPUS.

Meantime, St. Theresa College of Tandag City got the special award for cake decoration; Jerry Maglinte grabbed the first prize for Salads and Sandwiches; Randy Descarten and St. Theresa College -Tandag City won the second and third prize, respectively.

178 farmers receive land titles

AGUSAN DEL NORTE, Feb. 24 (PIA) - A total of 178 farmers are now the new landowners of the land they tilled following the distribution of titles to 175.4745 hectares of agricultural land in Barangay Macalang, Buenavista, this province on February 20.

Provincial Agrarian Reform Program Officer  (PARPO) II Andre B. Atega, CESO V, led the distribution of titles, together with municipal mayor Norbert Pagaspas represented by Sangguniang Bayan member Ruben A. Gonzaga and Brgy. Macalang chairperson Shirley M. Edoc.

Atega in his message reminded the new landowners to take care and make their land more productive so that the government’s support would not end with the distribution of land but also some various interventions to uplift their livelihood.

An 83 year-old farmer beneficiary Geronima D. Rante was grateful to the Department of Agraarin Reform (DAR) for the land that she finally owned. “Mapasalamaton ako sa DAR sa ilang programa sa pagpang-apod-apod og yuta, karon sigurado na ako sa pagpalambo sa among luna.” (I am thankful with DAR’s help in land distribution, now, I am certain to make the land productive.) 

Report said that last year 2013, DAR Agusan del Norte ended with a 226 percent accomplishment in Land Acquisition and Distribution (LAD) component with 1,586 landless farmers in this province were transformed into landowners.

Army-NPA encounters anew in Surigao, one NPA died

BANCASI, Butuan City, Feb. 24 (PIA) - An encounter ensued between the troops of 30th Infantry Battalion and New People’s Army (NPA) in Barangay Mabini an outskirt barangay of Surigao City at 9:30 AM, Sunday.

The presence of the NPAs was tipped by a concern citizen in the area. According to him, 20 armed men are extorting from the populace in their community.

This prompted the 30IB to send troops to the said area but was fired upon and immediately encountered the said armed group as the troops approached the general vicinity. The encounter that lasted for 15 minutes resulted to the death of one NPA (Name is for confirmation), recovery of one AK 47, and subversive documents with high intelligence value.

Ltc Arsenio Sadural, Commanding Officer of the 30IB said, “the civilian populace in the area are now aware of the dangers brought by the NPA’s in the community and so they are more cooperative with the military especially in monitoring the movements of this communist armed group.”

“We are saddened for another Filipino losing his life in this nonsense battle. For the bereaved family of the NPA, we are sorry for your loss,” Ltc Sadural added.

He immediately ordered his troops to conduct pursuit operation to drive away the NPAs in the surrounding communities.

Meantime, Col. Ferdinand F. Quidilla, Commander of 402nd Infantry Brigade, has also congratulated the troops for their display of courage. "They have earned distinct credit and honor not only for the Armed Forces of the Philippines but for the entire Filipino people whom we dedicate our service,” Quidilla said. (QMS,PA/PIA-Caraga)

Kini nga mahinungdanong sugyot-balaod namugna  sa pagpaningkamot ni Cong. Amante tungod kay nakita man kini nga kinahanglan na gayod og lain nga buhatan sa NBI aron mas epektibo ang ilang serbisyo sa katawhan dili lamang sa siyudad sa Butuan kundili apil na usab ang mga probinsiya sa Agusan del Sur, Surigao del Norte, ug Surigao del Sur.

Sa pagkakaron, usa lamang ang opisina sa NBI nga nagserbisyo sa tibuok Caraga region ug nagsilbing regional office. Gawas sa iyang regular nga mga trabahoon nga maghatag og technical assistance alang sa episyente nga imbestigasyon sa mga kremin ug koordinasyon usab sa mga nasyonal ug lokal nga mga law enforcement agencies alang sa pagmentenar sa kalinaw, usa sa mga nag-unang serbisyo sa NBI mao ang direkta nga serbisyo sa mga tawo pag-issue ug pagrenew sa NBI clearance nga kasagaran gamiton sa mga nag-apply og trabaho dinhi sa lokal ug para sa overseas employment.

Apan sa kasamtangan nga organizational set up sa NBI nga gamay lamang ang tawo, nakita ni Cong. Amante nga aduna na gyud panginahanglanon nga magtukod og NBI satellite o district office dinhi sa rehiyon aron ma-mentenar ang episyente ug dali nga serbisyo ngadto sa katawhan.
