By Nida Grace P. Barcena

Tandag City, Oct. 25 (PIA) – “The city government of Tandag strongly supports the National Filarias program”, said Mayor Roxanne Pimentel on her message during the declaration of Surigao del Sur as Filaria-Free on Wednesday.

According to Pimentel, record showed that Tandag City has identified 104 cases diagnosed with filariasis in 2001. In response to this, the past administration ordered the city health officer to support and coordinate for the implementation of mass drug administration (MDA) to 21 barangays. Through massive implementation of MDA, the cases dropped to 68, then six cases in 2011 and the recent evaluation conducted showed that the city is now free of such disease.

“Our quest towards addressing health problems and concerns in the city of Tandag doesn’t stop with the declaration… It is our continued challenge and commitment for the betterment of the people and tomorrow’s people of Tandag City,” Mayor said.

Healthy Tandaganons is her second pillar of development or known as her second legislative agenda and aimed to launch soon as “Dengue-Free Tandag City. (PIA-Surigao del Sur)
