DENR, EMB readies Environmental Awareness Month celeb

BUTUAN CITY, Oct. 15 (PIA) -– Pursuant to Republic Act No. 9512, known as the Environmental Awareness and Education Act of 2008, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Environmental Education Committee is hereby reconstituted to ensure a continuing integration and implementation of environmental awareness and education programs in all levels of school curricula and capacity building programs.

During the DENR Environmental Committee Meeting held recently at the DENR-Caraga Regional Conference Room, Environmental Management Bureau (EMB) Caraga Regional Dir. Ester Olavides tackled the proposed activities in support to the National Greening Program of the government and the ‘Adopt an Estero/River/Creek’ Program.

Olavides said that pursuant to the policy set forth in R.A. 9512, the month of November of every year shall be known as the “Environmental Awareness Month” throughout the country.

With the upcoming celebration of the Environmental Awareness Month, the committee aimed to promote environmental awareness to the community by coordinating with other government agencies and partner stakeholders, and initiating activities that will unite the public and work as one in the goal to maintain the cleanliness of the environment.

“The ‘Adopt Estero’ Program will be launched on November 18, 2011 at the Masao River, Butuan City wherein government agencies, partner stakeholders and community will be cleaning and planting in the area,” Olavides said.

After the said program will be formally launched, the committee is also committed to monitor and assess the impact of the activity and will replicate it to other areas of the city and region in general.

Aside from the ‘Adopt Estero’ Program, DENR and EMB will continuously lead the provision of planting materials/seedlings to partner stakeholders who are planning to conduct massive tree planting in the coming months. (JPG/PIA-Caraga)

DOF conducts Microinsurance training

BUTUAN CITY, October 15 (PIA) -- A Training on Microinsurance Advocacy (TOMA) with the theme “Magpaseguro para Protektado: Advocacy Seminar on Microinsurance”, was conducted to educate the public about insurance at Almont Hotel’s Inland Resort, in this city on October 11 to 13.

The said activity was spearheaded by the Department of Finance- National Credit Council together with the German International Cooperation – Microinsurance Innovations Program for Social Security (GIZ-MIPSS) and the Asian Development Bank-Japan Fund for Poverty Reduction.

For the culmination of TOMA, a press conference on the Financial Literacy Roadshow on Microfinance Advocacy was conducted yesterday to enhance public awareness and education campaign on the importance of microinsurance and focused on issues such as the microinsurance policies and regulations, appropriate risk protection and rights and benefits of clients.

Insurance Commissioner Emmanuel F. Dooc said microinsurance is integral to the overall poverty alleviation strategy of the Filipino government. He said that microinsurance has the potential to buffer Caraga from sinking further into poverty by protecting its residents from sudden fincancial burdens of accidents, illness, deaths, or any catastrophe.

Dooc added that the Financial Literacy is a pervasive way of informing the people under low-income sector about microinsurance for it is the key to supplement the livelihood of our brothers.

Microinsurance product is very accessible for the poor because the amount of premium or contribution per microinsurance policy can range from less that P1 up to P20 per day. This means that the premium on a microinsurance product can be as low as P30 per month. (MRA/PIA-Caraga)

Cebuano news: Agusan del Sur provincial government, dumalahon sa mga bata

BUTUAN CITY, Okt. 15 (PIA) -- Usa ka adlaw nga dumalahon sa mga batang lider ang lalawigan sa Agusan del Sur karong Lunes, Oktubre 17, kansa highlight sa pagsa-ulog sa Universal Children's Month.

Ang probinsyal nga panggamhanan maoy manguna sa pagpahigayon sa duha ka kalihukan nga nakatutok sa kabataan, aron lang ma-promote ang katungod og pagkatawo sa kabataan.

Sigon ni Clint Yubuco, Provincial SK Federation President, ang duha ka adlaw'ng kalihukang mag-highlight sa maong kasa-ulugan, mao ang pagpahigayon sa Children's Congress ug Children's day of governance, kansa pinasubay na usab sa Ordinance No. 16-2002 nga mas nailang Children's Code of Agusan del Sur.

Nakalatid sa article 2, section 46 sa Children's Code nga matag-ikatulong Lunes sa Oktubre, kada-tuig, mao ang adlaw sa mga bata aron dumalahon ang lokal nga kagamhanan.

Adiser ang maong adlaw, makig-uban ang mga probinsyal nga opisyal sa mga bata sulod sa duha ka adlaw, aron matudluan sa paghimo og lokal nga mga balaud nga pangunahan ni Vice Governor Santiago Cane Jr.

AGUSAN DEL NORTE, Oct. 15 (PIA) -- Malampusong gipahigayon bag-ohay pa lamang ang libre nga medical ug dental clinic sa Agusan del Norte Provincial Hospital, kon diin ubay-ubay nga mga katawhan ang nakapahimulos sa libre nga tanyag.

Napahimuslan sa katawhan ang libre nga medical consultations o check-up, ibot sa ngipon, digital rectal examinations ug ang libre nga mga tambal.

Gibutyag ni Dr. Elizabeth N. Campado, Provincial Health Officer ll nga ang maong libre nga medical ug dental clinic kabahin kini sa ilang pagsaulog sa Centennial Anniversary o usa ka gatos ka tuig nga paghatag ug tukmang serbisyo sa maong balay tambalanan.

AGUSAN DEL NORTE, Oct. 15 (PIA) -- Mipaabot sa iyang dakung pasalamat si Jabonga Vice Mayor Danny Moran sa mga naangkong mga proyekto sa lungsod sa Jabonga gikan na sa Kapit Bisig Laban sa Kahirapan-Comprehensive and Integrated Delivery of Social Services (KALAHI-CIDSS) Makamasang Tugon HIPAGLAMBO sub-project sa Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) ug sa Agusan del Norte Provincial Government sa pagpanguna ni Gov. Erlpe John M. Amante.

Gipasalamatan usab ni Vice Mayor Moran ang mga volunteers sa matag barangay nga nakaangkon sa maong mga proyekto nga mihatag sa ilang boluntaryong kusog, aron lamang mahuman ang maong mga proyekto.

Subay niini nagpahimangno na lamang ang opisyal sa mga barangay officials ug mga residente sa mga barangay nga nakaangkon sa maong mga proyekto nga ila kining ampingan alang sa malahutayong pag-gamit niini nga mga proyekto.
