Gov. Plaza receives gawad sa kaunlaran awards from AFP

AGUSAN DEL SUR, Aug. 26 (PIA) -- Agusan del Sur Governor Adolph Edward Plaza received the “Gawad sa Kaunlaran Award,” the second highest distinction award bestowed by the Armed Forces of the Philippines to civilian and government officials in the country.

Col. Rodrigo Diapana, 402nd Brigade Commander handed over to Gov. Plaza the Plaque of Recognition in time with the celebration of the latter’s birthday on August 21 in recognition of his exemplary performance in alleviating the economic condition of the people in Agusan del Sur.

The governor was honored for his administration’s "dedicated and sincere efforts in implementing the socio economic programs of the provincial government." These include the Baka alang sa Kalambuan sa Agusan del Sur (BAKAS), the Agusan Goat Program (AGP), ISDA, PRUTAS, the Boosted Utilization of Grains in Agusan del Sur (BUGAS) and other livelihood programs that the people of Agusan del Sur now enjoy.

Col. Diapana also mentioned the following contributions of the governor: his efforts in the construction of Hawilian, Esperanza-Bukidnon road that made the transport of agricultural products of the area to the market easier and cost-saving; the construction of Agusan-Davao Maharlika highway; and the support for the programs of the AFP in attaining lasting peace.

A day before and on the day of the governor’s birthday celebration, the joint teams of the AFP, the provincial government, the provincial health office, the Philippine Red Cross and other agencies again conducted medical outreach in the municipalities of San Francisco and Bayugan where hundreds of people were served. Agusan del Sur bagged three major awards on blood services

AGUSAN DEL SUR, Aug. 26 (PIA) -
Three major awards were recently received by three major players in the implementation of health and blood programs in the province.

This was in appreciation for achieving the goal in improving health of the Agusanons such as pushing health care reforms, empowering quality assurance and making health services affordable, accessible and available for all.

A plaque of appreciation signed by Dr. Leonita Gorgolon, regional director of the Department of Health, Caraga Region, was awarded to Gov. Adolph Edward Plaza for extending all out “Support for the National Voluntary Blood Program” while Julie Lapides, a medical technologist of the Philippine Red Cross, Agusan del Sur Chapter (PRC-AdS) was awarded for her dedication to “Regular Mobile Blood Donations” province-wide. Cristylle Basan, PRC-AdS administrator, also received plaque of appreciation for “Best Blood Station 2010” and “Good Networking with Other Facilities”.

Agusan del Sur is unique in dealing with the blood program, compared to other provinces and cities nation-wide. Last year, the provincial government set aside P1.5 Million, plus P800,00 supplementary funds to shoulder the re-agents that cost of P1,500 per sample testing, to ensure that the blood extracted from donors are free from any diseases. Last year, the provincial government has released some P2.3 million for the re-agents alone. The 13 municipal government and the lone city of Bayugan also share P50,000 every year to shoulder the fuel and oil and other travelling expenses of the team for the mobile blood donations province-wide.

This year, the provincial government increased the budget for blood program from P1.5 Million last year to P2.3 Million this year. To date, the PRC-AdS has already billed the provincial government for the re-agents the amount of P2.18 Million. The Provincial Blood Coordinating Council will meet on August 26 in order to discuss the request for supplementary budget from the provincial government to address the financial need for the re-agents until the end of this year, 2011.

To date, the Provincial Blood Coordinating Council, thru the PRC – AdS and the Provincial Health Office have collected 1,563 bags of blood, some 67 percent against the annual target of 2,300 bags. (PIA-Agusan del Sur)


Phl has 965 hemodialysis centers nationwide - REDCOP official

BUTUAN CITY, August 25 (PIA) -- People suffering from renal disease now have more access to hemodialysis treatment.

There were only 290 hemodialysis centers in 2008, but this number increased to 320 in 2009. This increases further to 355 in 2010, according to Susan Jorge, Adult Nephrology Consultant and Assistant Program Manager of Renal Disease Control Program (REDCOP).

Dr. Jorge said of the 16 regions, NCR has the biggest number of hemodialysis centers having 267, followed by Region IV-A with 155, and Region III with 146.

Meanwhile, in Caraga Region officials of the National Kidney and Transplant Institute (NKTI) said the region has already five hemodialyis centers as of 2010. This, they said, can already cater to the needs of the patients who will undergo hemodialysis in the region.

The NKTI official was here in the region for the conduct of the "Seminar on Urinalysis: Maximizing the Use of a Basic Tool for Diagnosis and Prevention of Kidney Diseases" held Wednesday in one of the local convention centers here. (PIA-Caraga)


PDEA-13, police raid alleged drug lab in Surigao City

SURIGAO CITY, Aug. 26 (PIA) -- Operatives of Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA-13) and Philippine National Police-Surigao City seized chemicals, several paraphernalia and equipment allegedly used in the manufacturing of illegal drugs from a clandestine chemical laboratory in Surigao City, Friday morning.

PDEA Caraga officer-in-charge Director Joel Plaza said the raid at Sitio Kabugwason, Brgy. Ipil at around 5:30am failed to arrest the alleged occupants of the house for it was already abandoned eight months ago but they were able to recover chemicals and equipment allegedly used in manufacturing shabu.

Plaza said a certain Taiwanese national identified as Yang Kai and Filipino-Chinese Luis Lim rented the house of Rodulfo Retorta sometime in March 2009.

Plaza further revealed that it was Retorta who actually informed PDEA yesterday, Aug. 25 thru the Philippine National Police after he noticed a number of paraphernalia and chemicals in his house.

He also said they will now coordinate with the Bureau of Immigration to validate the identity of the suspects.

PIA Surigao Norte partners with RMN-Surigao in bloodletting activity

SURIGAO CITY, August 26 (PIA) -- The Philippine Information Agency – Surigao del Norte Information Center has partnered with Radio Mindanao Network (RMN) Surigao for the conduct of bloodletting activity on Sunday, August 28, 2011.

The event, which coincided with RMN’s 59th anniversary celebration, will start at exactly 8am at RMN-DXRS station, Km. 1, this city.

Gay D. Tiu, Station Manager of RMN Surigao said some local fraternities have already confirmed their participation in the activity.

Tiu said aside from the bloodletting activity other services to highlight the event include free legal consultation, medical-dental mission, and giving of free medicines.

Caraga Wage Board sets public consultations

BUTUAN CITY, Aug. 26 (PIA) -- The Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board (RTWPB) headed by Chairperson Ofelia B. Domingo of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Caraga has approved and set the schedules of the public consultations/hearing in the region to review the Wage Order No. 10 and the petition filed by the Trade Union Congress of the Philippines (TUCP) for P75/day wage increase during the board meeting.

According to Earl Dela Victoria, RTWPB-Caraga Board Secretary, the public consultations/hearing will be held in different provinces of Caraga.

The date and venue of the initial consultations/hearing of petition will be as follows: on Sept. 13 at Paso de San Francisco Suites, Agusan del Sur; on Sept. 14 at Paper Country Inn (PCI), Mangagoy, Bislig City; on Sept 15 at Villa Luisa Hotel, Tandag City; on Sept. 16 at Hotel Tavern, Borromeo St., Surigao City; on Sept. 20 at Brgy. Aurello Gym, San Jose, Dinagat Province and on Sept 22 at Luciana Convention Center, J.P. Rosales Avenue, Butuan City.

The said consultations will start from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. except on the last day of hearing, which will start from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m.

Major investments pour in Agusan del Norte

AGUSAN DEL NORTE, Aug. 26 (PIA) -- Municipalities in Agusan del Norte are expected to be flooded with big-time foreign investors. These investors will establish their businesses in the Co-Management Project Area of LASBUENASCAR (Las Nieves, Buenavista, Nasipit, Carmen) which covers 56,000 hectares of land.

Agusan del Norte Governor Erlpe John M. Amante revealed that most of the businesses will constitute agricultural production. In fact, two of the foreign investors have already paid P500,000 for cash bond fee.

The governor further said that the local government of LASBUENASCAR will benefit rent income from investors.

Establishment of new businesses will lead to job creation in and development of the LASBUENASCAR areas.

RC Surigao City’s drinking fountain project benefits 730 schoolchildren of Canlanipa ES

SURIGAO CITY, Aug. 26 (PIA) -- The Rotary Club of Surigao City in cooperation with Surigao Metropolitan Water District (SMWD) successfully inaugurated its 7th Water Drinking Fountain project last August 22 for the 730 pupils of Canlanipa Elementary School in Barangay Canlanipa, this city.

Rotary Club President Jay Remy Gonzalez hopes that this project can be of help to children’s health and sharpen their minds.

Gonzalez then expressed gratitude to SMWD through its Chairman Bienvenido Ilano and Board of Director Bernardo Mora for their efforts in spearheading this project.

“We are happy that we could be of help to you and the next generation of pupils. We are looking for an additional water drinking fountain to be established here during my term,” President Gonzalez said.

SMWD Chairman Bienvenido Ilano expressed joy to be of partner with the Rotary Club of Surigao City and committed to construct more water drinking fountain in the city schools.

“We started this project four years ago in the different elementary schools of the city. I believed the children here will use this drinking fountain with extra care. If there is problem on the faucet, I told your principal to call us so that immediate repair will be done,” Past President and Paul Harris Fellow Bernardo T. Mora said.

Everyone was so excited to see the members of Rotary Club of Surigao City being the first socio-civic club to visit said school.

School Principal Frediswinda Espejon gladly conveyed her gratitude to all the Rotarians for giving the school this drinking fountain, “basically one of the basic facilities we have been anticipating to have for our children. But now it’s here you’ve made it a reality in our midst. Thanks a million for this and we assure you we will take care of it. I and my teachers accept it with joyful heart.”

The turnover ceremony was also witnessed by some 20 faculty members and school’s PTA President Reynilda Dematera.

From 2007 to 2010, almost 5,000 schoolchildren benefited the free water drinking fountain from six elementary schools of the city, they were Mariano Espina Memorial Central elementary School in Barangay Taft, CV Diez Central Elementary School in Barangay Washington, Surigao West central Elementary School in Barangay San Juan, Surigao City Pilot School, Surigao City Elementary School and Navarro Memorial Central Elementary School in Barangay Taft. Discipline zone to be created in Butuan City

LIBERTAD, Butuan City, Aug. 26 (PIA) -- Butuan City Police Office (BCPO) Director PSSupt Jose Velasquez Carillo signed the Letter of Instruction (LOI) 21/2011 signalling the green light for the implementation of the “Discipline Zone” in Butuan City.

Said LOI will serve as the guidelines in the creation of Discipline Zone in the city streets of Butuan. It involved the conduct of Security and Traffic Operations, Anti-Littering/Clean-Up Drive and Pedestrian and Motorist Discipline Advocacy.

PSSUPT Carillo intends to institutionalize said LOI to resolve the problems of Traffic Congestions, Illegal Vending and Littering by utilizing all available PNP personnel of Butuan City Police Office and its resources.

Uniformed personnel will be sent in the streets for traffic control and police visibility together with the City’s LTTMO and Barangay Tanods.

Director Carillo said that by implementing the Discipline Zone, he wanted to instill in the minds of motorists, pedestrians and commuters the value of discipline among citizens as a mean to attain public order and enforcing traffic laws and ordinances with “Zero Tolerance”.

PSSUPT Carillo has also coordinated with the LGU, barangay officials, LTTMO, School Adminitrators, PTAs and Drivers/Operators Associations of Butuan to work together to implement city ordinances and traffic laws such as Illegal Terminals, Loading and Unloading Zone, Obstruction in the Flow of Traffic, Illegal parking, Disregarding Traffic Lights, Throwing of Garbages anywhere, Illegal Peddlers and Smoking in Public Places in the Discipline Zone.

The Discipline Zone will initially cover the area in the vicinity of Libertad in front of Butuan City Police Station 3, Sacred Heart Kindergarten School and Saint Joseph Cathedral along JC Aquino Avenue going to Butuan City Elementary School at AD Curato Street, Butuan City. Director Carillo intends for the public to give emphasis on the observance of law rather than its enforcement and urged them to help the PNP in its endeavor.

It can be recalled that on August 19, 2011, PSSUPT Carillo headed a briefing at BCPO Conference Room attended by BCPO personnel, BCPS 1 personnel, PO1s undergoing FTP, LTTMO personnel and Honorable Ryan Anthony B Culima, Butuan City Councilor wherein Director Carillo disscused in the briefing the Orientation on Implementation of Discipline Zone within the city of Butuan and scheduled a dry run on the third week of August 2011 covering the areas of Montilla Boulevard crossing JC Aquino Avenue to AD Curato catering the butuan City Elementary School and Agusan national High School.

A total of four hundred seventy-seven (477) newly-promoted PNP personnel took their oath at Police Regional Office (PRO) Caraga Parade Grounds, Camp Rodriguez, Libertad, this city right after the Flag Raising Ceremony on August 22, 2011.

The oath-taking was spearheaded by the Deputy Regional Director for Administration, PSSupt Isagani F Genabe Jr and participated by PNP personnel assigned at Regional Headquarters, loved ones and relatives of the promotees.

PSSUPT Genabe in his speech said that "higher rank does not entail higher pay and allowances but it also entails higher responsibilities and accountability."

Meanwhile, PSupt Rainer P Diaz, the newly promoted Police Commisison Officer in his acceptance speech said that newly promoted PNP personnel were thankful for the Promotion Board and the whole PNP organization for the promotion that given to them.

After the oath-taking, respective loved ones and relatives of the promotees pinned the new ranks to the said personnel.

BUTUAN CITY, Aug. 26 (PIA) -- Dahil sa kaguluhang nagaganap ngayon sa bansang Syria, naglunsad kamakailan lamang ang Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) Caraga Regional Office ng “Operation Syria Libreng Tawag” para makapagbigay ng madaliang tulong sa pamilya ng mga Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) na nasa Syria.

Sa ‘Operation Syria Libreng Tawag’ magkakaroon ng pagkakataon na makamusta ng mga apektadong pamilya ang kanilang kapamilyang OFWs na nasa Syria at sa ganitong paraan ay mapagaan ang kanilang loob.

Ayon kay OWWA Administrator Carmilita Dimzon, sa ngayon ay aktibong nakikipag- ugnayan ang OWWA at ang embahada ng Pilipinas sa Syria para matulungan ang mga OFWs.

Handang sumaklolo ang OWWA sa mga OFWs na gustong umuwi sa Pilipinas.

Hinihikayat din ng OWWA-Caraga ang mga pamilya ng mga OFWs sa Syria na bumisita sa kanilang opisina mula Lunes hanggang Biyernes sa oras ng pagtatrabaho.
