NYC officials to visit Agusan del Sur

BUTUAN CITY, April 15 (PIA) – The National Youth Commission (NYC) officials will visit the municipality of Prosperidad, Agusan del Sur on Saturday, April 16 to commend the peaceful resolution of the recent hostage crisis through the leadership of Prosperidad Mayor Albin D. Magdamit, and who at the same time the chairman of the Crisis Management Committee.

The visiting NYC officials include new appointed NYC chairman Hon. Leon G. Flores III and Commissioner for Mindanao Hon. Earl P. Saavedra.

According to NYC Area Officer Mr. Eddie Cuaresma, NYC officials would also like to see and talk personally to the reported youths who were victims of the said recent hostage taking.

Also, NYC will hold a press conference on Monday, April 18, 9am at the Philippine Information Agency – Caraga Regional Office Conference Room here to discuss fresh updates on the said visit in Prosperidad, and other matters involving the Filipino youth. (PIA-Caraga)

Sec Robredo to visit Surigao Norte anew

SURIGAO CITY, Apr. 15 (PIA) – Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Jesse Robredo is set to visit Surigao del Norte once again on Monday, April 18, 2011.

Sec. Robredo along with 1st district Rep. Francisco Matugas will attend the Provincial Peace and Order Council (PPOC) meeting at the Matugas Beach Resort, Brgy. 1, Gen. Luna in Siargao Island.

Among the agenda which will be tackled in the meeting include, the establishment of Surigao Peace Village, updates on the creation of Provincial Crisis Management Committee and the discussion on the swapping of the properties owned by the Armed Forces of the Philippines and the provincial government in Brgy. Bad-as, Placer and Brgy. Magpayang, Mainit, respectively.

After the meeting, Sec. Robredo is also expected to grace the Barangay Officials and Farmers Forum.

It was further revealed that Sec. Robredo will also lead the groundbreaking of the new PNP stations of Dapa and Gen. Luna.

EO No. 26 urges convergence efforts of multi-sectors for NGP implementation

BUTUAN CITY, April 13 (PIA) –- To pursue a sustainable development for poverty reduction, food security, biodiversity conservation, and climate change mitigation and adaptation, Executive Order No. 26 was issued by President Benigno S. Aquino III in support to EO No. 23 series 2011 - Declaring a moratorium on the cutting and harvesting of timber in the natural and residual forests and creating the anti-illegal logging task force.

In a meeting held recently at the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Caraga Conference Room here, Regional Technical Director for Ecological Research and Development Services - Forester Virgilio dela Cruz of DENR said that the Department of Agriculture, Department of Agrarian Reform, and DENR have adopted a convergence initiative to integrate and strengthen development framework between and among national government, local government agencies and other stakeholders, wherein complementary human, physical and financial resources are efficiently and effectively deployed.

“Executive Order No. 23 series 2011 has mandated the DA-DAR-DENR convergence initiative to develop a National Greening Program (NGP) in cooperation with the Department of Education (DepEd), Commission on Higher Education (CHED), Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), Department of Budget and Management (DBM), private sectors and other concerned agencies and institutions,”

With the NGP, multi-sectors shall plant some 1.5 billion trees covering about 1.5 million hectares for a period of six years from 2011 to 2016 in the following lands of the public domain: Forestlands, Mangrove and protected areas, Ancestral domains, Civil and military reservations, Urban areas under the greening plan of the LGUs, Inactive and abandoned mine sites, and other suitable lands.

In order to ensure the successful implementation of the NGP, strategies like social mobilization, harmonization of initiatives, provision of incentives, and monitoring and management of database shall be adopted.

Meanwhile, DA-DAR-DENR convergence is responsible for the nursery establishment and seedling production; site identification and site preparation; social mobilization; tree planting; monitoring and evaluation; technical support and extension services; provision of certified seeds of agronomic crops; provision of access roads and trails to plating site; and provision of post harvest and processing facilities; while other partner-agencies and stakeholders also have their respective responsibilities covering in the NGP.

Funds needed for the implementation of the NGP for the current year shall be provided by the DBM and funding for the succeeding years shall be incorporated in the regular appropriation of participating agencies. (PIA-Caraga)

Multi-sectors convenes follow-up workshop on IPDP-Caraga

BUTUAN CITY, April 15 (PIA) – Different government agencies, non-government organizations, and private stakeholders converging under the Indigenous Peoples Development Programme (IPDP) in Caraga will convene again for a two-day seminar workshop on April 28-29 at Almont Hotel’s Inland Resort, this city.

The IPDP-Caraga thru the convergence of multi-sectors aims for the empowerment of the indigenous peoples and the development and protection of their ancestral domains in Caraga region.

This seminar/workshop is a follow-up activity from its previous capacity enhancement training for multi-sectoral convergence partners in Agusan del Norte last January 25-26, 2011.

According to National Commission for Indigenous Peoples (NCIP) Agusan del Norte Provincial Officer Rosemarie P. Mordeno, the seminar/workshop is aimed primarily at a) finalizing specific multi-sectoral convergence cluster plans; b) reviewing arrangements for the implementation of these plans; c) formulating a site-specific local Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for the purpose.

Also, additional team-building sessions will be held to firm up the convergence initiative. (PIA-Caraga)

BIR reminds taxpayers in ITR Filing

TANDAG CITY, April 15 (PIA) - The Revenue District Office (RDO) 106 of the Bureau of internal Revenue (BIR) in Surigao del Sur reminds concerned taxpayers to file their Income Tax Return (ITR) on or before the April 15 deadline.

According to Assistant Revenue District Officer Francisco Trillo, no extension has been given for the purpose.

Trillo said, to ease up the rush as it is common sight during last day of filing, assistance centers have been set up in both cities of Tandag and Bislig.

GSIS revokes ARAS for pensioners

MANILA, April 15 --The Government Service Insurance System today announced that beginning May 1 this year, the pension fund will no longer require its more than 300,000 old-age and survivorship pensioners to visit GSIS on their birth month for their ARAS (Annual Renewal of Active Status) to receive their monthly pension.

“We don’t want to impose unnecessary hardship on our pensioners especially those who are very sick and who have difficulty moving around,” Robert Vergara, President and General Manager explained.

Vergara said the GSIS reached an agreement with the National Statistics Office to determine the status of GSIS pensioners in lieu of the annual renewal requirement.

Pensioners living abroad, however, will still be required to renew their active status via video call or through the use of skype, a web-based software that allows users to make telephone calls over the Internet free of charge.

“This initiative is part of the continuing efforts of the new Board to provide more responsive service to its members and pensioners,” Vergara said. (GSIS-13/PIA-Caraga)

Kini dili para kang Presidente Benigno S. Aquino III.

Sa pakighinabi sa mga miyembro sa media atol sa iyang pakisusi sa PHilBio Alternative Power Generation Facility of the Babiana Farms and Mills niadtong Huwebes didto sa General Santos City, ang Presidente nag-ingon nga ang iyang Holy Week schedule yano lamang ug padayon ang iyang pagtrabaho sama gihapon sa iyang mga inadlaw-adlawng gimbuhaton.

Siya nag-ingon ang iyang ipahinungod ang pagsunod sa Semana Santa karong tuiga sa pag seguro niadtong tanang mga Pilipino nga mobiyahe pauli ngadto sa ilang mga probinsya nga makaabot sila nga luwas sa ilang padulngan.

“Kaya ako natatawa kasi maraming nagpaalam na magbabakasyon, sa gabinete for instance, madadagdagan ako ng mga isang linggo dahil sa kanila at hindi naman tayo maka-hindi sa kanila dahil talaga namang puspusan sila at talagang buhos ang kakayahan nila at pagod,” ang Presidente nag-ingon.

Ang Presidente nagkanayon nga kung ugaling muluag ang iyang schedule sa biyernes santo, siya mogahin usab ug oras alang sa iyang kaugalingon.

“Sa madaling salita po kung sakasakaling may bakasyon ako o kung malamang hindi masyadong kumikilos ang Good Friday...kalahati po siguro nun akin, iyong iba ho sa bayan ulit,” ang Presidente nag-ingon. (PIA-Surigao del Norte)
