402nd Brigade seeks communication support from PIA-Caraga

BUTUAN CITY, Mar. 2 (PIA)
– The 402nd Brigade of the Philippine Army has sought the communication support of the Regional Office of the Philippine Information Agency to beef up its advocacies in the region.

In a roundtable discussion on Tuesday, Col Rodrigo Diapana of the 4th Infantry (Diamond) Division and Ltc Efrain Oropel, Camp Bancasi Commander signified its intention to partner with PIA-Caraga in disseminating information through the agency’s local tri-media partners in the entire region.

This undertaking of the Philippine Army is in line with its effort to inform the public on the thrusts, projects and programs of the armed forces specifically in solving insurgency problems in the region and in promoting and upholding peace and development in Northern and Northeastern Mindanao Regions.

The partnership of the two government agencies also forms part of the six social contracts of President Benigno S. Aquino III specifically in the promotion of transparency and accountability governance. (PIA-Caraga)


Butuan to hold forum on Magna Carta of Women

Butuan City, Mar. 2 (PIA)
– In line with the celebration of the Women’s Month, the city government of Butuan will hold a forum on women on March 3, at the city hall lobby, this city.

According to city planning office GAD focal person Lounella D. Villanueva, GAD focal persons from the 86 barangays, barangay officials, local chief of offices, employees, non-government organizations are among the expected participants of the forum.

Also, Villanueva said the forum is the venue where the “Magna Carta of Women” will be discussed by GADCC Chairperson and Commission on Human Rights (CHR) Caraga Regional Director Atty. Marilyn Pintor.

The forum is part of the celebration of the Women’s Month with the theme “Magna Carta of Women, Philippine CEDAW: In support of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs)”. 

Early this morning, the city government conducted fun walk and hataw at the Butuan by the River (freedom park) as kick off activity of the Women’s month celebration. Also, held at the park, a free massage and foot spa while free dental services were conducted at the city health office, Villanueva said.

Meanwhile, the Regional Development Council-Gender and Development Coordinating Committee (RDC-GADCC) through its chairperson Atty. Pintor is asking for the full support and participation of the public on the other activities set for the whole month of March. The activities include: the 7th Kalandrakas on March 8 at the Balanghai Hotel and Convention Center; Lumad visitation with medical and dental mission in Brgy. Cuyago, Jabonga Agusan del Norte on March 24; and sportsfest and culmination program on March 31 at the Philippine Ports Authority (PPA). (PIA-Caraga)


Understanding electric cooperatives forum set

– In response to the requests of the public on information on understanding the concept of electric cooperatives, a forum on “Understanding Electric Cooperatives” is set on March 3, this city.

According to Cooperative Development Authority (CDA) regional director Manuela Pelaez, the forum is a venue where ideas and enlightenment about electric cooperatives issues and its registration with CDA will be thoroughly discussed and given action.

Resource speakers from government agencies were invited too discuss the background of the rural electrification program, the U.S. rural electrification program and electric cooperative movement and electric cooperative registration & conversion process.

The forum is sponsored by the Philippine Federation of Credit Cooperatives – Butuan City and Agusan del Norte chapter in coordination with the Cooperative Development Authority – Caraga regional office (CDA-Caraga), the Regional Cooperative Development Council (RCDC XIII) and the People’s Movement for Sustainable Economic Development.

Surigao del Sur set to celebrate Women’s Month

Tandag, Surigao del Sur, March 1 (PIA) – The province of Surigao del Sur with Governor Johnny T. Pimentel thru the Commission on Population (POPCOM) Officer Ms. Milagros L. Arreza, Gender and Development (GAD) focal person are set to celebrate Women’s Month.

With this year’s theme: “Magna Carta of Women, Philippine CEDAW: In Support to the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs)”, the launching is set on March 2 and 3 with different activities lined-up. 

A “Walk for a Cause” with a minimum registration fee of P10.00 per participant, will take place at 6:00 in the morning prior to the opening program. Also, a Holy Mass will be celebrated at 2:00 o’clock in the afternoon at the Provincial Seminar Hall, Tandag.

The registration proceeds will be utilized for the purchase of containers for Solid Waste Management Program.

During the International Women’s Day on March 8, a garage sale, videoke Kalandrakas will be held in coordination with the Tanggapan ng Sanggunian Panlalawigan Office, Technical Education Skills and Development Authority (TESDA), Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), Social Security System (SSS), and PhilHealth. The activity is open to public at the Tandag Mega Gym.

Also, Educational Tour for Solid Waste Management is scheduled on March 23 at the Municipality of Hinatuan, this province.

The province had set several activities for the Month of March, aiming for the empowerment of Women and recognize its contribution
