RCWC-Caraga intensifies programs and services for the children

By: Jennifer P. Gaitano

BUTUAN CITY, Mar. 26 (PIA) -- The Regional Council for the Welfare of Children (RCWC) Caraga with the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Caraga Regional Office as the lead agency intensifies its programs for the welfare of children by discussing issues and concerns, and planning for sustainable activities to help children improve their lives.

RCWC member-agencies agreed that on its third quarter meeting this year, it will be devoted for the crafting of basic indicators to be used in the regional-based data banking on children. The National Economic Development Authority (NEDA) office as member on the other hand will facilitate the programming of the database as well as the training of the provincial/municipal/city social welfare development officers and other concerned agencies.

Ms. Golda Pocon, RCWC Secretariat stressed that the Quick Response Team (QRT) for children’s concerns is an inter-agency team composed of stakeholders from the local and national agencies.

“The need of creating an inter-agency team was conceived and developed to put in place the implementation of various laws pertaining to the protection of children,” Pocon said.

Thus, the QRT as proposed by RCWC will be established under the Local Council for the Protection of Children (LCPC) in all local government units of Caraga region. It will then be implemented once the memorandum-circular be issued by the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG). RCWC will now submit a request letter to DILG for the issuance of the said memorandum-circular.

Meanwhile, RCWC continuous to encourage all LGUs to actively participate in the Search for Most Child Friendly LGUs. Soon, Search for Most Child-Friendly Police Station will also be realized.

RCWC will continue its surveillance and rescue in response to any reported cases of abuse and other atrocities against minor children. (PIA-Caraga)
