FORECAST: The Zamboanga Peninsula will experience cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms due to the Southwest Monsoon. These conditions may lead to possible flash floods or landslides, especially during moderate to occasionally heavy rainfall. The rest of Mindanao will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms also influenced by the Southwest Monsoon. Winds will be light to moderate from the southwest, with slight to moderate seas (wave height between 0.6 to 2.1 meters).

Villagers fight back against NPA rebels in Surigao

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY - Villagers of Sitio Mabog, Brgy San Roque, Bisilig City, Surigao del Sur encountered with alleged members of GF-14, NEMRC under @Friday of New People’s Army (NPA) at road 84B between Brgy Manat, Trento, Agusan del Sur and the said Sitio last October 16,2010. 

The encounter resulted in recovery of one (1) unidentified killed NPA member, three (3) M14 Rifles, two (2) landmines, assorted ammunition and ordnance items, communication and medical equipment, communist flags, various documents and other personal belongings. 

On the other hand, two (2) villagers were killed during the firefight identified as John Mark Dogonoy and Joel Ilagan and two (2) wounded namely Jason Dogonoy and Jonard Talikog.

Maj Noli P Kanashiro, Spokesperson of 4th Infantry Division, Philippine Army said, “Nowadays, the CPP/NPA/NDF influence has already been challenged and started to erode in the area as manifested by the incident.”

“Despite of that, we are saddened on the death of the two civilians,” he added. 

Nevertheless, MGen Victor A. Felix, Commander, 4ID, PA has ordered the 75th Infantry Battalion to conduct pursuit operations against the fleeing NPAs and to provide immediate assistance to the victims. (4TH INFANTRY (DIAMOND) DIVISION, PHILIPPINE ARMY/PIA-Caraga)
