TLW Philippines Inc calls on youth to act for change

True Love Waits (TLW) Philippines Incorporated, a non-profit organization visited Butuan City recently and presented what they can do to help the city’s youths. This was learned during its press conference held recently in one of the private higher education institutions here.  
.
As a concerned citizen and as a parent, it was the initiative of Ms. Rosa Bernadette “Odette” Andaya, who is also a TLW volunteer from this city, to invite TLW National Director Mr. Derek Ross with his colleagues to visit Butuan City and advocate the call for change to the young ones.
.
According to Mr. Ross, TLW Philippines Inc. aims to connect the youths to God and His plan for purity. The focus and thrust of the organization is Teaching Purity of Relationships to the future leaders and the lessons being taught in small group settings give students the right answers to today’s tough questions that the youth are facing.
.
Also, TLW National Training Coordinator Mr. Franco Ferrer, said that that the purpose of the organization is to guide young people to make a commitment to sexual purity until marriage; give young people who made a commitment to abstinence a chance to reaffirm that promise and challenge other young people to do so.
.
“TLW will also guide parents of young people to make or reaffirm a commitment to Godly standards of sexual behavior and model a life committed to sexual purity; and also guide adults a tangible way to affirm and courage young people who make a commitment to sexual abstinence until marriage,” Ferrer said.
.
Ms. Andaya also stressed that parents and teachers could work hand in hand in guiding the children while at home and in school and lead them the right direction while the are still studying.
.
Meanwhile, in his speech, Butuan City Mayor Hon. Ferdinand M. Amante Jr., emphasized that the local government of Butuan is very willing to get in partnership with TLW and encourages everyone to be part of the endeavor.
.
“I and my family commit ourselves to this program and LGU-Butuan will also incorporate this program to the Sangguniang Pangkabataan so youth in the barangays will also be involved and be guided,” Mayor Amante said.

TLW will also hold youth convention dubbed as “Unashamed” with various activities and performances on November 2010 at the Father Saturnino Urios University Gymnasium, here in Butuan City. (PIA-Caraga)


Search for Outstanding Volunteers 2010 begins

BUTUAN CITY - The Philippine National Volunteer Service Coordinating Agency (PNVSCA) thru the SOV Regional Search Committees headed by the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) Caraga with its partner agencies are now accepting nominations of various volunteer groups or individuals for the National Outstanding Volunteer Award (NOVA) and Volunteer Lifetime Achievement Award (VLAA) from the communities in Caraga region. 
.
The Search for Outstanding Volunteers aims to highlight and recognize the exemplary performance and dedication to service of Filipino volunteers in building strong communities across the country through volunteerism. 
.
The Search is open to all individuals of Filipino citizenship and Filipino volunteer organizations or local chapter organizations that currently provide volunteer assistance in the Philippines. 
.
NOVA is a recognition conferred on outstanding volunteer individuals and organizations that are chosen from among the regional qualifiers. The two categories under this award are the Individual, and organization. 
.
An individual volunteer is a person that engages in activity/ies undertaken not primarily for financial gain that involves spending time on his/her own free will, doing activities that aims to benefit the community, the environment or individuals outside one's immediate family. 
.
The individual category is classified into youth and adult. Nominee for this category must be 15-30 years old (youth category) and at least 31 years old (adult category) at the time of submission of nomination; is providing volunteer assistance consistently for at least three years (youth category) and at least five years (adult category) to socio-economic, civic and humanitarian programs or projects in institutions or communities; and is a member of a volunteer organization or institution that is registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC); or registered by the PNVSCA or duly recognized by an accrediting government institution; or is recognized as a volunteer by communities, groups or institutions which he/she serves. 
.
Also, the Volunteer Organizations are classified into Non-Profit and Corporate. For purposes of the search, a Non-Profit refers to any non-stock, non-governmental organizations including schools and company/corporation and one that engages the services of volunteers in socio-economic and cultural development, humanitarian, civic activities, advocacy, capability building and networking for volunteerism or is created specifically to recruit, train and deploy volunteers for such purpose. 
.
A corporate refers to companies that engage employee volunteering as an approach to achieve corporate social responsibility; or to corporate-supported or affiliated foundations that engage volunteers to implement volunteer program/s. A nominee to be qualified should be providing volunteer assistance consistently for at least five years (for Non-Profit) and at least three years (for Corporate); and is formally organized, with SEC registration and/or duly registered by the PNVSCA or granted accreditation by government or non-government organizations duly recognized by government; or is formally established but is recognized as a volunteer organization by communities, groups or institutions it serves. 
.
Meanwhile, the VLAA is a recognition conferred to an individual volunteer of Filipino citizenship, or Filipino volunteer organization or a local chapter organization of a foreign volunteer organization serving in the Philippines. 
.
A nominee for VLAA should have been engaged in consistent volunteering activities for at least 25 years; has attained national status and recognition in the field of volunteerism; has been a recipient of national and international recognition/awards; plays a significant role/contribution in promoting volunteerism and possesses the capability to mobilize others to support volunteer causes; and serves as a role model through a positive representation of volunteerism as a development resource. 
.
According to Ms. Venus Derequito of NEDA-Caraga that all nominations must be received by the SOV Regional Search Committees not later than August 12, 2010 for Caraga region. Mailed nomination must also be postmarked not later than said date. 
.
It was also learned that the regional qualifiers shall receive certificates of recognition; national awardees shall receive trophies; and recipients of VLAA shall receive medals and certificates of recognition while the national awardees and recipients of VLAA based outside Metro Manila will be provided round-trip transportation and accommodation for their attendance in the awarding ceremony.

Awards will be conferred in manila on December 2010. 
.

DSWD-Caraga sets activities for NDPR week observance

BUTUAN CITY – The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Caraga headed by Regional Director Mercedita Jabagat has lined-up activities for the National Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation (NDPR) week, July 17-23, 2010. 
.
Rallying behind the theme “Sa Istrukturang Accessible, Lahat ay Able”, this year’s observance of the NDPR week will steer local government units, national government line agencies and self-help groups of person with disabilities (PWDs) in giving recognition to the PWDs as partners in nation-building. 
.
It can be recalled that former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo has declared the period from the year 2003 to 2012 as the Philippine Decade of Persons with Disabilities under Proclamation No. 240 in view of the government’s desire to mainstream PWDs’ welfare and development.
.
In order to have a prosperous celebration, the national line agencies, non-government organizations, local government units and other concern is working hand in hand to promote public awareness on disability prevention and rehabilitation. 
.
Meanwhile, kick-off activity is set on Monday, July 19, 2010, 7:00 o’clock in the morning with a mass at the Saint Joseph Cathedral. It will then be followed with the motorcade and kick-off program at Rizal Park, this City.

Cebuano News: Surigao Norte School Board Teachers nakadawat ug 100% increase

Si Gov. Matugas kinsa nakaserbisyo sulod sa 43 katuig isip kanhi Regional Director sa Department of Education (DepEd) ang mipadayag nga prayoridad sa iyang administrasyon ang edukasyon.

Dugang sa pamahayag nga makadawat sa suholan nga P6,000.00 kada bulan ug dunay 100% nga pagsaka gikan sa ilang nadawat kaniadto nga P3,000.00 monthly salary ug may dugang pa nga P1,000.00 chalk allowance.

“We have allocated P4 Million worth of funds for the Local School Board. What I did with the money is that I created 82 positions and I raised their salaries from P3,000 to P6,000 and every December under my watch they will receive a chalk allowance amounted to P1,000,” sulti sa gobernadora.

BUTUAN CITY – Ang Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Caraga mipahigayon ug duha ka adlaw nga writeshop alang sa pagpalambo sa radio plugs pinaagi sa mga information officers (IOs) ug mga sakop sa media, dili pa lang dugay. 

Si DSWD-Caraga Regional Information Officer Leah Quintana namahayag nga ang mga mitambong nga partisipante ang dakong tabang sa aktibidades, dili lamang ang ilang presensya apil na ang makuhang kaalam gikan kanila na lambigit sa writeshop activity.

 “The radio plugs focuses on messages about anti-violence against women and children,” sulti ni Quintana.

“Specifically, the project aims to provide support to the prevention of violence against women, adolescents and girls through increased awareness of communities; improve assistance service to women, adolescents and girls who are victims/survivors of VAW through the conduct of specialized training, provision of resources and coordination between and among agencies and other entities; and facilitate social integration and related socio-economic aspects of victims/survivors of VAW,” dugang pamahayag ni Mendoza.

Sa gihimong inisyatibo sa DSWD ug kaabag nga ahensya sa gobyerno mapaabot na ngadto sa katawhan lakip na sa mga biktima nga adunay suportadong balaod nga naglatid sa Violence Against Women and Children (VAWC).
