Migrant Workers Day kicks-off today in Surigao City

Surigao City (June 7) - The “Araw ng Pasasalamat 2010” or the Migrant Workers Day officially opens in Surigao City today, June 7, 2010.

Thousand of OFWs along with their families throughout the region converged in the newly refurbished provincial gymnasium this morning to celebrate this annual gathering.

Organized by the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) – Caraga region, the event carries the theme “OFWs: Tagumpay sa Hamon ng Panahon, Kaagapay sa Pagsulong."

OWWA Caraga Director Dr. Marieta Lumawag said that the activity will showcase livelihood trade fair in close coordination with the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), cultural presentation featuring “Sajaw Surigao” Performing Arts, medical-dental mission with the support from the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO), and some volunteer doctors from the City Health Office and the Prov’l Health Office.

Lumawagalso announced that Globe Communications and Banco de Oro (BDO) are their partners in the celebration. “Merong raffle draw ang Globe at cell phones na ipamimigay. Partner po natin yung Globe sa celebration at saka BDO. BDO is also set to give cash awards.”

Lumawag also said that in recognition of their hard work and sacrifices abroad, there will be an awarding of outstanding OFWs. One award each for Outstanding Land-Based and Sea-Based OFWs. Recognition will also be given to the most active OFW Family Circle in the region.

Meanwhile, Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) Caraga Coordinator Marieta Bellotindos confirmed that at least 19,973 job openings for overseas workers are also available in the event.

“As of today, I have with me 19,973 job orders from the 12 agencies invited. Jobs ranged from managerial, skilled (welders), domestic helpers and medical,” said Bellotindos.

Report on homicide incident

BUTUAN CITY – The victim mauled by his older brother with the use of hard object causing severe injuries on the different parts of his body that resulted to his instantaneous death, the police report said.

Incident happened on Friday, (June 04) at around 5:00 in the afternoon at Sitio Tibaran Maica, Brgy Kapatungan, Trento, Agusan del Sur.

The police identified the victim as one Casiano Pareno Pet (1st victim), 28 yrs old, jobless, and a resident of the said place while the suspect is identified as one Emelio Pet, 35 yrs old, older brother, married, and a resident of the aforesaid place.

Victim was brought to Bunawan Hospital but pronounce dead on arrival by the attending Physician.

After the incident, suspect went home and shot his neighbor identified as Michael Albar Saiz (2nd victim) with the use of homemade shotgun hitting his right leg.

Saiz was brought immediately to Rico Hospital , Trento, Agusan del Sur and subsequently referred to Tagum Regional Hospital.

According to the report, PNP personnel from Trento Municipal Police Station led by SPO4 Francis Portillo immediately conducted on scene investigation and hot pursuit operation against the suspect who fled to nearby mountainous area bounded to Brgy Libertad, Bunawan, Agusan del Sur carrying his firearm.

During follow-up operation suspect was apprehended with his homemade 12 gauge shotgun, loaded with spent shell and two (2) live ammos and one (1) pack bag full of clothing.

Further report said, suspect was brought to Trento Municipal Police Station for appropriate filing of cases. (PNP 13/PIA-Caraga)


Spot report on shooting incident

BUTUAN CITY – One rugby user was shot once with the use of undetermined caliber of firearm by unidentified suspect who fled after the incident together with his two (2) companions, on June 05, (Saturday) at around 12:15 at Marcos Calo street , Brgy Urduja, this city.

The police identified the victim as one David Dela Cruz Mansera alias "Dave", of legal age, single and temporarily residing at Brgy Urduja, this city.

Initial investigation revealed that the victim sustained one (1) gun shot wound at the back of his head and brought to Butuan Medical Center for Medical treatment.

The elements of Butuan City Police Office 2 led by PINSP Luciano Tumala, taken action the said incident.

Further investogation revealed that the victim is a known “rugby user” and usually involved in petty crimes and previously detained at Butuan City Jail for the crime of Theft and attempted Homicide. (PNP13/PIA-Caraga)


Report on hacking accident

BUTUAN CITY – Suspect with his bolo voluntarily surrendered to Brgy Captain Nonito B Sensones and turned-over to Kitcharao Municipal Police Station for proper disposition.

In an report from PNP 13, the victim identified as one Herminigildo Eborde Juanite, 35 yrs old, single, and a resident of the above mentioned place was hacked by the suspect also identifies as Jose Eballe Salon, 47 yrs old, married and a resident of P-3, Sitio Zapanta Valley, Brgy Bangayan, Kitcharao, Agusan del Norte.

Initial investigation disclosed that the suspect is using bolo hitting the victom at the left forehead and throat.

Further report said that the incident took place at around 6:00 o’clock in the morning of Firday (June 04), at Purok-1, Brgy Bangayan, Kitcharao, Agusan del Norte.

Report said that the victim assaulted the Bunk house of the suspect where his family also lived.

When the wife of the suspect came out from bunk house, she was forcibly held close and dragged to the cliff of said bung house by the victim.

The husband (suspect) tried to save his wife by taking the bolo inside his bunk house and hacked the victim hitting his left forehead and throat that resulted to his instantaneous death.

Suspect is now detained at Kitcharao Municipal Police Station for further investigation and filing appropriate charges in court. (PNP 13/ PIA-Caraga)


Report on stabbing incident

BUTUAN CITY – The report said that victim identified as one Nestor Oraiz Canoy, 20 yrs old, single, and a resident of the above mentioned place was stabbed once by unidentified suspect with the use of hunting knife hitting him on his stomach.

Incident took place on Saturday (June 05), 1:00 o’clock in the morning at P-1, Brgy Causwagan, Cabadbaran City.

Initial investigation disclosed that the victim was pacifying the trouble with the group of the suspects and one of them stabbed the victim.

PNP elements of Cabadbaran City Police Station led by SPO4 Yonson immediately proceeded to the area and conducted investigation and hot pursuit operation for possible apprehension of the suspect who fled after the commission of the crime.

Ang biktima giila sa kapulisan sa pangalan nga Casiano Pareno Pet (1st victim), 28 yrs old, jobless, nagpuyo sa maong dapit. Samtang ang suspek giila sa pangalan nga Emelio Pet, 35 anyos, magulang, minyo, ug residente sa maong dapit.

Gihatud ang biktima didto sa Bunawan Hospital apan gideklara kining dead on arrival sa mi-atendir nga physician.

Human sa hitabo, ang suspek mipauli sa panimalay ug matud pa kalit lang gipusil ang laing biktima nga naila sa pangalan nga Michael Albar Saiz gamit ang homemade shotgun.

Naigo ang tuong parte sa paa sa biktima. Gidala kini sa Rico Hospital, Trento, Agusan del Sur ug giduso sa Tagum Regional Hospital alang sa dugang medikasyon.

Si SPO4 Francis Portillo ang nanguna sa paglusad sa imbestigasyon ug hot-pursuit operation batok sa mga suspek. Matud pa nga misibat ang suspek padulong sa lasang nga bahin sa Brgy Libertad, Bunawan, Agusan del Sur bitbit ang armas niini.

Sa follow-up operation, nadakpan ang suspek dala ang homemade 12 gauge shotgun, duha ka buhing bala (2) ug (1) bag-pack nga may unod sinina.
