Butuan local officials, military, PNP, stakeholders join the observance of Araw ng Kagitingan tomorrow

BUTUAN CITY (08 April) - The City Government of Butuan is set to spearhead the Araw ng Kagitingan celebration on Friday, April 09, 2010 in partnership with local public and private stakeholders.

The activity will commence with the flower offering ceremony to be led by local officials of the city. Among them include: Butuan City Mayor Democrito D. Plaza II who is also the guest of honor who will deliver a message, Cong. Joboy Aquino of the 1st District of Butuan City and Las Nieves, Vice Mayor Dino Claudio Sanchez, Sangguniang Panglungsod members, and chiefs of offices.

Also gracing the affair are top military officials of the region composed of BGen. Emiliano R. Gupana II – Commander of the 402B, 4ID, Phil. Army; Lt. Col. Roberto A. Valencia – Commander of the 30IB, 4ID, Phil. Army; Lt. Col. Ephraim Oropel - Camp Bancasi Commander, 4ID, Phil. Army; PCSupt. Lino G. Calingasan – PNP Regional Director and; Mr. Iluminado B. Domingo – Dist. Commander, 1st Dist. Agusan del Norte Veteran’s Federation of the Philippines. Highlighting the activity is the Sounding of Siren by the fire Department and the firing of the 21 gun salute by the 402nd Brigade of the Phil. Army.

DENR to Surigaonons, join 10 Million Movement for Mother Earth

SURIGAO DEL NORTE (April 8) - As part of the nationwide Earth Day 2010 celebration, officials and personnel of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) in the province urged all Surigaonons to join the “10 Million Movement” (10MM) for Mother Earth.

PENRO Claudio Asumen said that the 10 MM is the highlight of the Earth Day celebration on April 22, 2010 with its theme, "Hamon ng Panahon: Climate Change, 10 Milyong Solusyon (Kilos na! Ngayon Na!).

Recognizing that Climate Change is the most pressing issue today especially given the vulnerability of our country to its consequences as proven by the recent experiences with Typhoons Ondoy and Peping thus the movement was conceptualized, said Asumen.

The Earth Day Network Philippines with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), the Batasan Kalikasan Foundation and othe partners and members, are leading the 10MM, a movement of men and women who stand up for the environment.

“We invite everyone to be one with us to take the stand for the integrity of creation by joining the 10MM. Sign-up and commit a Green Act for Mother Earth to www. 10mm.com and enlist your doable activities. Let us encourage and inspire our family members, relatives, friends and officemates to do the same so that we can create a critical mass of individuals championing the environment,” Asumen said.

He also said that the celebration becomes more relevant as we face disasters all over the world. The challenges require a sustained and united action involving all sectors of society to ensure the sustainable management of our environment.

“And so, let us give our Earth/Environment a chance, to be a good place to live in. Let us work together! Help Save Our Earth! “Earth Day is Everyday for Everybody,” Asumen concluded.

Earth Day is celebrated simultaneously around the globe by people of all backgrounds, faith and nationalities. – Ang Youth Empowerment Summer Camp (YESC) gilunsad pinaagi sa inisyatibo sa 30th Infantry Battalion, 4th Infantry Division of Philippine Army, didto sa Sanchez Gymnasium, Caraga State University, Barangay Ampayon, ni’ng syudad, dili pa lang dogay.

Si Lt. Col. Roberto Valencia sa iyang mensahe mipasabot sa kahinungdanon sa pag-usbong sa kabataan nga mahimong lider nga magdala sa responsibilidad sa katilingban nga may baruganan ug prinsipyo.

Sumala ni Col. Valencia ang kabataan ma-edukar pinaagi sa pakigsalmot sa kalihukang kumunidad ug pagsuta sa mga isyu nga naka-apekto sa katawhan ug sa nasud.

Daghang gihan-ay nga aktibidades sa maong summer camp aron makat-onan sa kabataan ang mga responsibilidad isip mga Pilipinhon.

AFP, DILG conduct 3-day 2010 YESC peace, dev’t summer camp in Northeastern Mindanao

AMPAYON, Butuan City – In line with the government’s peace and development program, the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) along with the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) and the city government of this region’s frontier city of Northeastern Mindanao, have started on Tuesday their three day 2010 Youth Empowerment Summer Camp (YESC) at Caraga State University Gymnasium at Ampayon, this city.

The first YESC project of the 30th Infantry (Python) Battalion (IB), 4th Infantry Division will end on Thursday. The 2nd batch YESC will begin on April 19-21, also this year.

At least 150 youth leaders from this region’s capital city are participating in the ongoing YESC summit at Ampayon.

Top local government and military officials attended the opening ceremony on Tuesday.

In his message, Col. Roberto Valencia, commanding officer of the 30th IB, emphasized the importance of developing the youth to be responsible citizens of the country.

“Educating the youth on how they will actively participate in peace and development building, social and other relevant issues which affect the community and the country in general is the center of this activity,” said Col. Valencia.

Butuan City Mayor Democrito Plaza ll said this summer camp is a great venue for all the youths to harness their additional skills and establish camaraderie and friendship that will mold their perspective for a brighter and challenging future.

“I greatly believe that through this kind of activity will shape the youth and broaden their spectrum in dealing with daily challenges that will determine who they really are and what their participation in peace and development program of the government,” said Mayor Plaza.

The city’s chief executive also hoped that the participants in the first and second bath of YESC will be able to absorb and treasure all the inputs that will be provided by invited various resource speakers and that it will be a stepping stone for them to discover who they are.

Meanwhile, Maj. Gen. Mario Chan, commanding general of the Army’s Northeastern and Northern Mindanao Fourth Infantry (Diamond) and Col. Emiliano Gupana, commanding officer of the Army’s 402nd Infantry (Stingers) brigade, said the YESC peace and development program is a continuing project of the Army in the two region’s in Mindanao.
