TUCP, JILAF Complete National Productivity, LMC Workshop

DAVAO CITY (22 February) -Thirty trade union leaders from Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao completed recently the National Workshop on Productivity and Labor Management Cooperation (LMC), focusing on Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and Collective Bargaining.

Led by the Trade Union Congress of the Philippines (TUCP) and supported by the Japan International labor Foundation (JILAF), the three-day program held in this city sought to (a) improve trade union leaders, members and activists’ knowledge on productivity, LMC, CSR and collective bargaining; (b) provide an opportunity for sharing of experiences and good trade union practices on the subjects; and (c) develop enterprise-level trade union action on improving productivity through labor management cooperation, corporate social responsibility and collective bargaining using an action checklist.

An action checklist was developed to guide trade unions assess, negotiate, participate in and monitor productivity and LMC as well as gain-sharing programs at the enterprise level.

The enterprise-based unions and federations represented include ACF Bus Employees Union, Apo Cemex Employees Union (supervisory), Associated Labor Unions, Bachelor Express, Inc. Employees Union (Mindanao), Balayan Distillery Inc. Employees Union, Busco Sugar Milling Co. Employees Union, Casino Espanol de Cebu Employees Union, CEPALCO Employees Union, Del Monte Philippines Fresh Produce (rank and file) and Del Monte Fresh Office and Technical Labor Union (supervisory), Global Tampakan Employees Union, Kilusan sa Jolibee, Kling Labor Unon, LBC Express Inc. Davao Employees Union, Mindanao Sugar Workers’ Union, Philippine Integrated Industries Labor Union, Philippine Stock Exchange Center Condo Corp. Employees Union, Rose Pharmacy Employees Union, Samahang Manggagawa ng Lapanday, San Miguel Foods Inc. Employees Union, Suarez Brothers Metal Arts, Inc. Employees Union, Valle Verde Country Club, Inc. Employees Union, and Vallacar Transit, Inc. Employees Union.

Three public sector workers’ organizations affiliated with the TUCP were represented as well --the Kapisanan ng mga Kawani ng Koreo sa Pilipinas, Pag-IBIG Fund Labor Employees Association-PGEA (Davao) and TESDA-Association of Concerned Employees (Davao City).

A seven-person training pool --including the Japan-based National Trade Union Productivity Congress General Secretary Shoujiro Nishizawa, JILAF Assistant Secretary Kenichi Kumagai and TUCP Deputy General Secretary Cedric R. Bagtas, JILAF Field Projects Officer Takeru Kato, TUCP Director for Youth/Education Rafael Mapalo, TUCP Research officer Anna Lee Fos and ALU/BWI Campaigns Officer Dominador Tuvera --provided inputs, facilitated structured learning exercises, and assisted the participants in developing doable and measurable trade union actions for productivity improvement and gain sharing.

Also, Regional Tripartite Wage and Productivity Board Secretary Ruby Badilles shared DOLE Programs on Productivity and LMC Promotion.

The participants will report, evaluate, and report progress on their priority actions for productivity improvement programs (PIP) and productivity gain sharing every three months. (REM/PIA-Surigao del Norte)

NFA inaugurates new warehouse in Dinagat Island

BUTUAN CITY (22 February) – The inauguration of the newly-constructed warehouse of the National Food Authority (NFA) at Purok 5, Barangay Luna, San Jose, took place yesterday (22 February).

According to NFA, the warehouse can accommodate up to 30,000 tons. The one-hectare land was donated by Carmencita Balocan of that same province, it was learned.
.
The operation of NFA warehouse in the province is a big basket of rice products for the region. It was noted that the province has continually experienced displacement and other disruptions in social and economic life.

NFA Dinagat Islands Provincial Manager Regino Delfin said the construction prioritized by the national government and the Caraga regional office in coordination with the provincial and local government units.

The said inauguration forms part of the celebration of the 15th Anniversary Caraga Region, which highlighted the showcase of “WOW Caraga: Calagan Festival,” from February 22-27, 2010. (PIA-Caraga)
