BCWD wins top prizes in regional contests

Butuan City Water District (BCWD) won top prizes in the regional contests held during the 27th Northern Mindanao Natural Resources Management Council (NORMIN-NRMC) Forum on October 28-30, 2009 in Valencia City, Bukidnon.

BCWD pipe fitting team, pipe fitters Randy Awa and Joselito Baylosis, was declared champion for Region 13 in the 2009 NORMIN-NRMC Regional Pipe Fitting Contest. Awa and Baylosis edged over other contenders because of their speed and zero leakage pipe fitting workmanship.

Another contestant representing BCWD, Frederick Mayol, bagged the 1st Place award in the 15th NORMIN-NRMC Regional Poster Making Contest – High School Level. Mayol’s poster depicting the theme “An Outlook of the Environment in the Year 2020” impressed the judges, who chose him unanimously as the winner from among the contestants from Regions 10 and 13. Few years back, in his elementary years, Mayol was BCWD’s representative artist-painter who won 1st Place in the NORMIN-NRMC Poster Making Contest – Elementary Level. He is now a 4th year high school student of Butuan City School of Arts and Trades.

Finally, this year’s BCWD representative orator, Giancarlo Llorente, was named 3rd Place winner for Region 13 in the 23rd NORMIN-NRMC Regional Oratorical Contest. Llorente’s relaxed delivery of the piece espousing the theme “Our Watershed, Our Future, Ours to Protect” placed him on the 3rd top spot. He is a 3rd year high school student of Angelicum Montessori School.

Both Mayol and Llorente won on the Local Poster Making and Oratorical Contests conducted by the BCWD, making them the official representatives of BCWD to the regional contests.

Awa and Baylosis will compete in the PAWD National Pipe Fitting Contest while Mayol and Llorente will represent BCWD in the Youth Forum to be held during the 31st Philippine Association of Water Districts (PAWD) National Convention on February 17-19, 2010 at the Crowne Plaza Galleria Manila, Ortigas Center, Quezon City.
